RVing With Pets
Â
Many folks already know the benefits associated with having a pet. Their need for exercise and care translates to more activity for their human counterparts. Plus, having a dog, cat, or other critter can improve oneâs overall well-being. The Animal Health Foundation cites eight health benefits of having a pet: increased physical activity, less stress, lower blood pressure, lower risk of strokes and heart attacks, and alleviation of depression, among others.
Â
If you leave your pets at home when you travel, consider taking them along on your next RV trip. In addition to the pleasure of having your pet's companionship, you'll save money on kennel or pet-sitting fees. Sounds like a win! This month we offer some enticements to do so: tips on finding a dog park, making your own dog treats, and turning your furry one into an Instagram star, for starters.
Â
Finally, check out several pet travel articles from the December 2021 issue of Family RVing magazine, which discuss RVing with big dogs, calming your canine, and road tripping with cats.
Â
Now, start a new travel list: leash, water bowl, food, bed, treats, toys. . . .
Â
Happy RVing!

Tire Savings
Â
I just used the Michelin Tire Advantage program for the first time. I can only say, thank you! The program was easy to use following the instructions provided. The price I was charged was exactly what was quoted online. The service was quick and the tire company that installed the tires here in Denver were very friendly and helpful with my questions. The program saved me about $480 on a set of 6 tires for my Class A gas motorhome. These savings alone will pay for several years of FMCA membership!

A Walk In The (Dog) Park
Â
No matter what type of RV you travel in, you can enjoy the comforts of home that hotels or rental properties canât provide â your personal dĂŠcor, the ease of being in your own place, the reassurance that you have what you need with you.
Â
Why not take the dog along, too? Many RVers enjoy traveling with their beloved family pet. Itâs a bonus to have your furry friend right by your side during your journeys.
Â
Like humans, pets need some essentials along the way Thanks to technology, theyâre easier than ever to find â even down to locating a dog park. After all, our best friends need to stretch their legs, just as we do.
Â
RuffGrip offers some tips on how to find a dog park near you. It suggests several websites and apps on which to search for a dog park by location. They also include some top-10 lists: the coolest dog parks, the best cities for dog parks, even the top pet-friendly beaches.

Tips for RVing with Pets
Â
There may be nothing better than having the comforts of home while RVing and being able to bring your pets along during your travels. Plus, you have the freedom to explore the world around you â and so do they!
Â
When you think itâs time to take your furry friend on the road, introduce them slowly to your RV. They might be unsure of the new space, so offering treats and encouraging them to sniff and explore at their own pace can help build their confidence.
Â
You can also prepare by packing the right gear for your pets and making them their own packing list. During your trip, add items to the list that you wish you had brought along and cross off the things you packed but didnât need. Donât forget to bring your petâs veterinary records in case they get injured or sick while on the road, and make sure you have a photo of them in case they get lost.
Â
Creating a travel itinerary for your pet can also help. While more places are adopting pet-friendly policies, there still can be limitations on where your pet can travel with you. Doing your research and confirming your destinationâs pet policy beforehand can help you in the long run! Keep in mind that bringing pets with you is a privilege and always obey posted guidelines. You donât want to miss out on making memories with your favorite travel companion.

Road Snacks For Fido
Â
If youâre looking for an alternative to the preservative-laden dog treats sold in stores, why not make your own? BringFido offers a few recipes, including this one that needs no oven time:
Â
No Bake âGrrr-nolaâ Bars
Â
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
â
 cup low-sodium peanut butter
1 tablespoon chia seeds
Âź cup unsweetened shredded coconut
½ cup apple, diced
|
| |
|
To make: 1. Soak the chia seeds in 2 tablespoons of cold water for 10 minutes until they absorb most or all of the liquid. 2. Mix the oats and peanut butter until well combined. Stir in the chia seeds, coconut, and apple. 3. Place the mixture in an 8x8 baking pan lined with parchment paper. Cover with plastic wrap and press down firmly. Refrigerate for 30 to 60 minutes. 4. Cut into bars; wrap individually in plastic wrap or parchment paper.
Â
If youâd rather play than prep food, hereâs an option: Nashies one-ingredient dog treats. These freeze-dried munchies are made with âhuman-gradeâ beef, chicken, or cheese. A portion of each sale goes to support the training and placement of therapy and service dogs throughout the United States.
