••Advent Devotional for Dec. 16••

Philippians 4: 4-7
“Always be full of joy in the Lord; I say again, rejoice. Let everyone see that you are unselfish and considerate in all you do. Remember that the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything: instead, pray about everything; tell God your needs and don’t forget to thank him for his answers.
If you do this you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus.

I love the holiday lights, especially when the skies of December are often overcast and the days are shorter. What really focuses my attention, however, is one single lit candle. It helps me as I meditate to pierce the confusion and gloom that hangs about like the overcast sky.
For me the light of the candle represents the Christ child promise of hope and forgiveness that can soothe my heart. It gives me energy and direction each day to reorder my thinking and priorities.
“Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” John 8:12
