MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Sakai Families,

As this semester comes to a close, I have to say that we are all so proud of everything our students have accomplished. They have shown grit, perseverance, responsibility, and reliability. Through this challenging year, they have grown as a community, as learners, and as people. We are excited to continue watching them grow next semester.

Today at 4:00 report cards will be available for families to view on Skyward. I would like to make a quick note about grading during this semester. At Sakai, we want to recognize that this year has many unique challenges that may have hindered students' ability to demonstrate learning. For core classes at Sakai, we are choosing to not assign “1” grades, opting instead for a “2” with more specific comments from our teachers. Please remember that grades given at 5th and 6th do not go on to a lasting transcript. At this age, they are truly meant to be feedback for students. The value is in the reflecting and goal setting.

Thank you to everyone that logged on to our Sakai Hybrid Family Webinar. As promised, here is the recording (Passcode: U6wb%sX+) and the presented slides. With a tentative reopening date less than a week away, please read over the Bainbridge Island Return to Learn Handbook and site-specific Sakai Handbook for families and students.

Thank you for your partnership and we look forward to seeing you at conferences.

STUDENT CHECK IN CARDS
Student check-in cards were sent in the mail.
Please keep an eye out for them. You should be receiving them by the end of this week. Your student will need this card as part of their daily check-in procedure when we return to school in the hybrid model.
PARENT CONFERENCES
Thursday, January 21st and Friday, January 22nd are Parent/Teacher conference days.

There is no school for students on conference days.

Conferences are an important time to further that home to school, and school to home connection that is so valuable in education. It's a time for students to be recognized for their efforts, and a time for students to re-establish their goals and their dedication toward reaching those goals.  Parents and teachers work together to support the student. In so doing, parents and teachers show the caring and teamwork that is a crucial connection in a student's education.  Teachers are looking forward to conferencing with all of you.  If you have not yet heard from your student's teacher about signing up for a conference, you will soon.  When you do, please act quickly to sign up for the conference time that works best for you.
All conferences will be held virtually via zoom meetings.
Your student's report card will be available for viewing in Family Access on Tuesday, the 19th, after 4:00 pm.
