This past week, MUDEC students returned from their first Study Tour of the summer in Sicily, where they spent six sunny days exploring the island and the layers of history that make it so unique. The trip was led by Professor Pascal Massie of the Philosophy department. The students’ favorite spots included the Mercato di Ballarò in Palermo, where culinary influences from around the Mediterranean converge; Agrigento’s Valley of the Temples, one of the largest collections of Greek temples outside of Greece; and Taormina’s charming, flower-filled streets (“exactly how you imagine Italy to be” according to one student). Traditional Sicilian cannoli and granita (a sort of slushy sorbet) made for excellent snacks between the more intellectual stops on the tour.
