MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Sakai Families,
I hope you all had a fun weekend and enjoyed the sunshine. It was wonderful to see you at conferences. We greatly appreciate your continued support and partnership this school year!
One of the goals in our District Improvement Plan is “Bainbridge Island School District will focus on and develop students’ social and emotional skills to lead positive and healthy lives with strong connections, feeling of belonging, and a sense of hope throughout their time in the Bainbridge Island School District ”. At Sakai, one of the ways we work to achieve this goal is through our COHO program. Today, students will be learning about their brains, what happens when we “flip our lids”, and strategies to help regulate emotions. This video from Washington State University is one resource students will see. As with all Mondays, you may want to ask your child what they learned in COHO and how they might apply it.
Our transportation department has a message regarding parent drop-off to ensure student safety.  Before 9:00 A.M, our South parking lot is for bus drop-off only. Please do not drop students off in the South parking lot before school has started. If you also have a Woodward student, they are welcome to get out with your Sakai student. However, we would appreciate you not stopping to drop them off at the crosswalk. Thank you for keeping students safe at drop-off times.
Finally, if you are looking for fun ways to get outside with your kids during the winter months, I know several of the ski and snowboarding mountains in our area are offering free lift tickets to 5th-graders. There are probably more, but at least Stevens (you need to call them) and Baker (visit site here) offer this service.
Have a great week, Sakai!

Each day we could use two parent volunteers, thank you for considering signing up to help us out.

All volunteers must have completed our district's application process outlined here: https://www.bisd303.org/Domain/1809

All volunteers must review the COVID-19  Safety Handbook, complete the COVID-19 quiz and verify their COVID vaccinations are completed.  Even if a volunteer is "active" they are still required to complete these new additions prior to volunteering.

Please wait to sign up until you have completed this process.

Volunteer Times:
Mondays: 11:15 AM-12:30 PM
Tuesday through Friday: 11:30 AM-1:00 PM
