Stanford Traditions: Commencement & Class Plaques

We just celebrated the Classes of 2020 and 2022 over the weekend! It is always especially meaningful for the members of the Approaching Stanford Team to welcome each class to Stanford and then to bid them farewell from the stadium field at Commencement.
One of our favorite Commencement traditions is the Class Plaque, where seniors add mementos to a time capsule under their class plaque. Every Stanford graduating class, dating back to the Class of 1892, has a class plaque placed in line along the arcades of the Main Quad. When you arrive to the Farm, you can visit your class plaque hanging at the Arrillaga Alumni Center where it will be on display for the next four years until it takes its place in the Main Quad. See what this year's seniors tucked under their class plaque!
Check out Stanford Commencement Weekend highlights, including videos from the Wacky Walk (another unique Stanford tradition) and keynote speeches given by Commencement speakers France A. Córdova, '69, and Reed Hastings, '88. In closing to the 2020 graduates, Dr. Córdova noted, “Wherever you end up, you will put a unique stamp on that profession – there is only one ‘you,’ so bring all of yourself to whatever you choose to do.”
We can't wait to see what you will explore and do as you find your own path here at Stanford.

Approaching Stanford Forms Confirmation

Our deepest apologies again for the technical issue last week with saving rankings and preferences on the Approaching Stanford Forms. We hope the extended deadline of this morning at 8am PDT gave you time to carefully complete and submit your forms and that you feel reassured that your forms saved correctly. Please know that we are not seeing any problems with any of the forms submitted after the issue was resolved (10am PDT June 8).
We've heard from many of you that the issues presented on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning (California time) were automatically corrected when the glitch was fixed. But we've also heard from a small number of you that the errors persisted even after the fix. Therefore, we are asking all students who submitted your forms on or before 10am PDT June 8, to log in and review your rankings and preferences. If you see errors, please send an email to approaching@stanford.edu and we will make the corrections on your behalf. Although the deadline has passed, we are committed to ensuring your forms are accurate, and therefore will spend this week following up with individual students asking you to review and confirm your forms by the end of the week. Please respond if we reach out by email. If any of your preferences (housing/courses) were impacted, we will notify the corresponding offices to ensure you are given equal consideration in all processes.
We know this technical issue was unsettling, especially as the forms are just the first of several requirements we'll ask you to complete via online systems this summer. If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to verify items on your forms with us, you are welcome to connect with us (email, phone, office hours) and we'll be happy to help!
