News Update: Access Bank upgrades ATM switching platform, Ghana launches two-in-one EMV and financial inclusion card
Access Bank – Nigeria’s largest bank by customer base with more than 29 million customers – has completed the migration of its entire ATM network to a new ATM driving and card switching solution from Dublin-based vendor, CR2. The project also included the migration of the lender's card management system to a new platform.

The new software, which enables banks to tailor their branding and messages to customers via the ATM, is certified for Verve Card issuing and acquiring. Verve is an ATM debit and payment card used only in Nigeria. The platform supports the local requirements of the Nigerian payment systems and services market.

Access Bank is one of Africa’s largest retail banks following a merger with Diamond Bank. It is the country’s largest card issuer with over 3,000 ATMs, making CR2 responsible for the largest ATM network in Nigeria. The key project aims to provide new revenue opportunities, greater control, higher levels of scalability and significant cost savings for the bank.

In Ghana, meanwhile, the Government has launched a dual-purpose EMV and financial inclusion payment card in its capital city Accra. The Gh Dual Card has been rolled out by the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement System (GhIPSS) and can be used on the e-zwich and gh-link payments networks. It can also be used to make merchant purchases, ATM cash withdrawals, ATM PIN changes and balance enquiries.
