TfT Bulletin #10  |   Febraury 8, 2023

Bryan Crump, TfT lead and Instructional Coach at Oakland Christian School, forwarded me this prayer from Cornelius Plantinga’s Morning and Evening Prayers. The words reminded him of Teaching for Transformation.
Give us, great God, open minds to seek your will,
soft hearts to receive your will,
and ready hands to do your will.
We want to be weavers, 0 God.
Teach us to weave together our work and witness
into a seamless garment that warms others
and that shows forth your beauty in the world.
As Bryan hoped for me, may you also be blessed by the words and Deep Hope of this prayer as you continue to play your part in God’s story.

Learning Walks: Strengthening TfT Core and Essential Practices

An emerging professional growth practice for many of our TfT schools is Learning Walks. Learning Walks provide a structured and focused protocol that invites educators to observe and celebrate TfT core and essential practices in action.  Learning Walks have become an important part of our Level 200 course at our Instructional Coaching Intensive. (Save the date for our next one: Nov 29-Dec 2, 2023.)
For those curious about Learning Walks, this article gives a concise overview of the “what, where, and how” of Learning Walks. We extend an invitation for school leaders to reach out if they would like to explore the implementation of this powerful professional growth practice.
Elementary TfT: 6th Grade History at Heritage Christian School
Early adopter Matt Ellerie’s Deep Hope for his 6th grade students at Heritage Christian School is to connect God’s hand at work throughout history to our own story as we respond to God’s redemptive work. In studying ancient civilizations, the students noticed that there was a deeper story about the history of Ancient Israel than was covered in their textbook. Together, they set out to write their own version of Israel’s biblical story based on Scripture and the thread of Christ throughout history to share with our families and future classes. You are invited to check out this learning story rooted within the Storyline Remember to Respond.
Secondary TfT: 11th Grade Composition at Denver Christian
Tami Zietse’s Deep Hope for her students is to grasp the beauty of community, utilize the power of words, and affirm the intrinsic value of all humanity as we wrestle with our role in God’s story. Using the medium of podcasts, she invited her Denver Christian 11th graders to practice beauty creating and community building by writing and recording podcasts that celebrate and share something that brings joy. Tami shares this learning journey and includes a QR code to access the student podcasts.
The TfT Tips Trio
In the TfT classroom, the storyboard serves as a map of the Deep Hope learning journey. This week’s tips include ideas on how to build student ownership so the ongoing growth, joy, and usefulness of the storyboard is increased through teacher and student collaboration.
Meeting Our School Designer Team: Rachel Reed
Rachel Reed is the Director of Learning at Allendale Christian School, where she lives into her Deep Hope to cultivate and nourish the learning community for Kingdom Flourishing. Rachel deeply appreciates Teaching for Transformation as a way to fully immerse students in Christian education. TfT invites students to see God's story in what they learn and empowers them to live into God's story as a response. Rachel shares a Storyline from one of Allendale’s 5th grade teachers, Hope Schroyer. Her Deep Hope is that her students would know that they are fearfully and wonderfully made by God.
