Last Chance To Take the Texas Farm Fresh Survey
If your CE has not yet completed the biannual Texas Farm Fresh Survey, today is your last day to do so! Child nutrition directors were emailed an invitation to take the survey This survey collects information about CE purchases of Texas-grown foods and Farm Fresh educational activities conducted with NSLP program participants. For questions regarding the survey, please contact FarmFresh@TexasAgriculture.gov

Summer Materials Are On the Way To Assist With School's Meeting USDA Requirement
The Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) is still in the process of sending posters (3 per school) and parent information cards (1 per enrolled student) to every school food authority (SFA) in Texas to assist them in fulfilling a National School Lunch Program requirement to notify students and their families about the availability of summer meals. The posters must be displayed on campus and the parent information cards must be distributed to each student immediately upon the shipment’s arrival.

School Breakfast Week (SBW) Begins March 6th!
Promotional items ordered online, such as cafeteria posters, participation charts, and stickers, should be arriving or have arrived at the location address provided at the time of ordering. Make sure your school’s front office knows you are expecting packages.

WBSCM STATEWIDE NON-PILOT RECIPIENT AGENCIES

New! CICN Resources Available
Team Nutrition, in partnership with the Culinary Institute of Child Nutrition (CICN), has released several new and updated culinary trainings, webinars, and recipes to provide school nutrition professionals with the tools to create scratch-based, healthy, student-approved school meals.

Updated: New Foods added to the Food Buying Guide (FBG)
Looking to add mandarins, lychee, or sorghum to your menu? Checkout the new food yield data in the updated FBG to assist in your menu planning and purchasing.  FBG resources are available in an interactive web-based tool, mobile app, or downloadable PDF linked in the title above.

New Culinary Institute of Child Nutrition Resources
Team Nutrition, in partnership with the Culinary Institute of Child Nutrition (CICN), is excited to present the availability of new resources! The CICN is the division of the Institute of Child Nutrition (ICN) that provides school nutrition professionals with in-depth, hands-on culinary training and resources that are foundational for scratch-based cooking and the creation of culinary-inspired school meals that are healthy, flavorful, and student-approved!

Financial Report Due March 31 
The Financial Report for fiscal year 2021-2022 is due by March 31. The Financial Report must be completed by Contracting Entities (CEs) who participate in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), School Breakfast Programs (SBP), School Milk Program (SMP) or At-Risk CACFP programs.

FSMC Contracts - Important Dates
February 15, 2023: New contracts must be approved by TDA to be published.
March 1, 2023: Renewal contracts are due to TDA.
April 17, 2023: New contracts for approval are due to TDA.
May 1, 2023: TDA will approve all new contracts and renewal contracts.
June 21, 2023: The CE submits the signed new contracts and renewals to TDA.


Policy Updates and Compliance Reminders
REMINDER -  Offsite Monitoring Flexibilities End June 30, 2023
The waivers allowing both TDA and Contracting Entities to conduct reviews of sites and facilities via desk review or other offsite method will expire June 30, 2023. Beginning July 1, all reviews must be conducted onsite in according with federal regulation.

New Notification Form and Comprehensive Guidance Related to Unanticipated School Closures
TDA has created an updated Unanticipated School Closure Notification Form that is available on the NSLP Administration/Forms page. School districts recently affected by recent weather events that served summer meals during school closures should consult new guidance in the School Year FAQs and submit the Notification Form.

2022-2023 School Data for Area Eligibility Report Published
TDA has published a revised 2022-2023 School Data for Area Eligibility Report to include a small number of new CEP sites that were inadvertently omitted. Schools listed on this report as well as non-school summer sites and CACFP At-risk sites in the attendance zones of the schools listed are eligible to operate their respective programs.

Proposed Rule to Revise Meal Patterns Consistent With 2020 Dietary Guidelines
On February 3, 2023, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), released the Proposed Rule Child Nutrition Programs: Revision to Meal Patterns Consistent With the 2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Contracting Entities in the Child Nutrition Programs are encouraged to comment on the Proposed Rule by April 10, 2023.

RELEASE: 2023-2024 School Nutrition Program Income Eligibility Guidelines
TDA has updated and posted the 2023-2024 Income Eligibility Guidelines for Determining Free and Reduced Price Benefits (NSLP and SBP) and the 2023-2024 Income Eligibility Guidelines for Determining Free Milk Benefits (Special Milk Program) on the applicable SquareMeals SNP Administration/Forms pages.

No Findings Administrative Review - CE Announcement
Achieving excellence in an Administrative Review (AR) for the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) deserves recognition from peers, the community, and the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA).  TDA Food and Nutrition Division will showcase NSLP contracting entities (CEs) that have no findings in their most recent Administrative Review.
