GVSU-authorized charter public schools celebrated National School Choice Week in a big way this year, and the CSO is grateful for all who participated. Things that made us smile during the week include:

Results from the Fall 2022 School Operations Survey |
For the third year in a row, the GVSU CSO collected survey data to learn how teachers in GVSU-authorized charter public schools felt about their working environment.
Key findings include:

- 82% of teachers are satisfied with being a teacher in their school.
- Strong parent/guardian engagement positively influences teacher satisfaction.

50% of teachers said they would like more time for instructional planning.

Charter Board Presidents Leadership Retreat announced |
The CSO is excited to invite board presidents of GVSU-authorized charter schools to the inaugural Charter Board Presidents Leadership Retreat on April 20, 2023.
The retreat will further develop board presidents as public servants who lead with a high degree of integrity. Held at the Gerald R. Ford Museum, the retreat will draw on the life of President Ford to “model the way” that presidents can increase their capacity to govern.

Boards can apply for 2023 Core Values Award starting Feb. 17 |
The 2023 Core Values Award recognizes efforts within GVSU's network of schools to advance GVSU's core values. The GVSU CSO presents this award to the school whose program, project, practice, or other initiative best demonstrates advancement of a particular core value.
The core value for the 2023 award is Inclusive and Equitable Community. The application window for the award runs from February 17-March 31.

Application for M.Ed. Scholarship opens March 1 |
Looking to further your education expertise? The GVSU CSO offers financial support to educators employed at GVSU-authorized charter schools who wish to participate in graduate courses at GVSU to earn a variety of graduate degrees, certifications and endorsements.
Depending on eligibility, the scholarship can provide up to an 80% tuition discount. The window to apply for the scholarship for the Spring/Summer semester will run from March 1 - May 1, 2023.

Recruitment, Hiring, and Retention Series kicks off |
Finding and keeping great educators can be accomplished when staffing strategies are intentionally inclusive and equitable.
The 3-part Recruitment, Hiring, and Retention Series shows participants how to use a DEI lens to build frameworks that make a lasting impact. You'll receive tactics for designing meaningful feedback loops and explore how to develop community-driven pipelines for meeting staffing needs.

Save the Date -- 2023 Board Receptions |
Mark you calendars for the 2023 Board Receptions, our annual event honoring the dedicated board members and leaders who govern GVSU's charter public schools.
The Grand Rapids reception will be held on May 8, while the reception in Detroit will be held on May 11. Additional details and RSVPs will be sent to all board members and school leaders.
