FAFSA 

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid opened on October 1 and all students are encouraged to submit their application early. All students are encouraged to submit their FAFSA early. Students can fill out the FAFSA online, via the mobile application or via a paper copy (Spanish paper copy).

Local Scholarships

  • Stephen Joel Trachtenberg Scholarship – George Washington University
    Closing Date:
    January 5 (counselor recommendation due January 15)
    Amount: Tuition and Fees, Room and Board and Books 
    GPA Requirment: N/A
    Description: The George Washington University’s Stephen Joel Trachtenberg (SJT) Scholarship program, founded in 1989, provides academically talented D.C. high school seniors with a full, four-year scholarship covering tuition, room and board, books and fees at the university. Students must apply to GW by January 5 and be nominated by their high school counselor by January 15.
  • Hazel and Mark Masterson Scholarship 
    Closing Date:
    January 31
    Amount: Up to $5,000
    GPA Requirment: 2.8
    Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors at Roosevelt high school who are US Citizens and involved in community and/or school based extra-curricular activities. Applicants must submit a 300-word essay on a significant challenge that they have overcome or how this scholarship will make a difference in their life. Multiple scholarships may be given up! 
  • Kiwanis Club of Washington Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    February 15
    Amount: Up to $20,000
    GPA Requirment: N/A
    Description: Any graduating, college-bound high school senior who both resides in and attends school in the District of Columbia are eligible to apply for this scholarship program. Applicants will be judged primarily on leadership qualities as demonstrated by contributions to school and community. Academic achievement as demonstrated by standardized test scores, grade point average, and transcripts will serve as a secondary scoring metric. Financial need will also be evaluated, but unlike previous years students do not need to submit their FAFSA in order to be eligible to apply. 
  • Lamond-Riggs Citizens Association, Inc. Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    April 30
    Amount: Up to $1,000
    GPA Requirment: 2.5
    Description: LRCA will award three (3) Academic Excellence Scholarships to eligible high school graduating seniors residing within the LRCA boundaries (see scholarship packet for a map), who will attend an accredited two or four - year college or university.

National Scholarships

  • Dell Scholars Program
    Closing Date:
    December 1
    Amount: $20,000
    GPA Requirment: 2.4
    Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors who have participated in an approved college readiness program (such as AVID, GEAR UP, Upward Bound – see full list on website) in grades 11 and 12. Applicant must have earned a minimum GPA of 2.4 and demonstrate financial need.
  • Johnnie L. Cochran, Jr. Memorial Scholarship 
    Closing Date:
    December 1
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and current college students. Applicant must submit an essay on a given topic related to social media and civil rights.
  • Lamber-Goodnow Injury Law Team College Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    December 1
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: 2.8
    Description: Scholarships are open to students enrolled at an accredited high school, college, or university with a 2.8 GPA or higher. Applicant must submit an essay on how they are driven to innovate.
  • National Space Club and Foundation Keynote Scholars Program
    Closing Date:
    December 2 
    Amount: $10,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors, college undergraduate students, and graduate students with plans to pursue a career in the science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) fields. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Advance Prevention Lawsuit Legal Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    December 5
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: 3.0
    Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and students currently attending their first year of college with at least a 3.0 GPA who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Applicant must submit an essay and video giving a personal story sharing how reckless, drunk, impaired or distracted driving has impacted their lives.
  • Allied Van Lines Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    December 15
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current full-time students of accredited colleges or universities within the United States who are working towards an undergraduate degree in Logistics or equivalent fields.
  • Avacare Medical Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    December 15
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: 3.0
    Description: Scholarship is open to high school seniors and current college students who are/will be pursuing a degree in the medical field such as therapy, nursing, medicine, nutrition, laboratory science, dentistry, etc. Applicant must have at least a 3.0 GPA.
  • $1,000 December Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    December 20
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to high school, college, and graduate students, and those planning to enroll within 12 months. Applicant must be a legal resident of the United States or an international student with a valid student visa. Applicant must fill out a short form.
  • AceableAgent Higher Education Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    December 20
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and current university, post-graduate, community and technical college students in the United States. Applicant must submit an essay on what home is to them.
  • Comedy Defensive Driving Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    December 31
    Amount: $1,500
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to incoming and current college students. Applicant must take the pledge related to driving and design an advertisement against distracted driving.
  • Scholarship Detective Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    December 31
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to high school and college students who are permanent residents of the United States. Applicant must submit a short online form and answer in 140 characters or less how they plan to use the scholarship money.
  • Student Voice Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    December 31
    Amount: $1,000
    GPA Requirement: 3.0
    Description: Scholarship is open to students accepted or currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or graduate school in the United States with at least a 3.0 GPA. Applicant must submit an essay on a significant moral or ethical challenge.
  • Top Ten List Scholarship
    Closing Date:
    December 31
    Amount: $1,500
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to students 13 years of age or older who are legal residents of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia who are currently enrolled (or will enroll no later than the fall of 2025) in an accredited post-secondary institution of higher education. Applicant will need to submit a short response to a given prompt.
  • Unigo $10K
    Closing Date:
    December 31
    Amount: $10,000
    GPA Requirement: N/A
    Description: Scholarship is open to U.S. residents who are 14 years of age or older and write a 250 word or less essay.

Summer Opportunity - OSSE Scholars

  • OSSE Scholars

    Description: OSSE Scholars provides high-achieving, academically motivated 10th and 11th graders, who exhibit financial need, with the opportunity to attend selective summer college programs. As an OSSE Scholar, students attend top-tier universities across the country for rigorous summer courses. The program offers early exposure to college-level academics, navigating a college environment, and, at certain universities, earning college credit
