A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Ordway Families,
October greetings! I hope you are enjoying the crisp autumn air and changing landscape. September is always a busy month as we all settle into the routines of school and fall activities. October brings with it a sense of routine and predictability. Each month, Ordway will have a virtual assembly with a common focus. Collectively, Ordway staff and students celebrated and learned about Hispanic culture in September and this month we are recognizing and celebrating Indigenous Peoples.  These experiences are to foster inclusiveness, reduce bias, and promote educational equity.  All are a part of our focus on improving our knowledge and support of equity and access for all students in our learning community.

The staff and I are enjoying getting to know Ordway families more and more as we spend time together. At the end of the month, on October 28th, 29th and 30th, there will be no school for students so that teachers can participate in Parent Teacher Conferences. This is the same time of year for conferences as we have had in year’s past, the difference is that they will be via zoom. Please mark your calendars and plan to set up an appointment for a zoom meeting via Family Access as those dates get closer.

What November will look like for elementary students is something that is being discussed and planned at the district and building level this month. This Thursday, October 8th at 5:45pm, the Bainbridge Island District School Board will be meeting with one of the main agenda items being reopening school plans. If you are interested in hearing more about this, please look for the zoom link on the District’s website.

I am amazed and proud of the hard work and determination that led us through the first month of school. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we make October a positive and productive month for our Ordway otters!
Kind Regards,
Melinda Reynvaan

Device Insurance

Just as you insure your home or car to protect you from accidental damages, families  may purchase insurance for BISD's “take home devices” (Chromebooks, iPads, etc.)

This insurance is optional but highly recommended, as the cost of replacing an uninsured BISD device is approximately $428 compared to the annual insurance price of $35. The insurance policy is between the parent/guardian and the Worth Ave. Group. The deadline to purchase insurance for the 20-21 school year is 9 p.m. (PST) on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2020. To access device and insurance documents, please login to Family Access and complete the Online form.
