Dear International Gauchos,
OISS became aware through media reports that since June 01, 2020, the U.S. Department of State has been implementing the provisions of the “Proclamation on the Suspension of Entry as Nonimmigrants of Certain Students and Researchers from the People’s Republic of China” announced by President Trump on May 29, 2020.
We have recently learned that some of our applicants have been notified by email that their visas have been revoked, with an effective date of September 09, 2020.
We want to assure you that we are working closely with our UC sister campuses and immigration attorneys to further understand the possible implications of these visa revocations.
Although we do not have answers for you yet, we are hard at work gathering information on how to best support those affected. We will advise individuals accordingly, and as best as we can, based on each individual’s unique circumstances.
Should you receive any email notification about a visa revocation, it is important that you contact an OISS advisor as soon as possible to receive further guidance.
We do extend our heartfelt empathy to students and scholars to have received this news during what is already a challenging and stressful time.
UC Santa Barbara remains the destination for thousands of international students and scholars from all across the globe. Our campus highly values and celebrates our international Gaucho community, and we are committed to creating an environment that is inclusive of everyone. Please know that these recent actions by no means represent the mission, vision or ethos of OISS or campus.
We are here for you, please always keep that in mind.
