Sept 18: AI for Research and Career Development

Brandon Patterson and Jorie Butler led a discussion on leveraging AI for research and the limitations of AI.

We were thrilled to welcome more than 80 participants from across the University of Utah and beyond, including our keynote speakers Dr. Andrew Ibrahim and Dr. Daniel Mullins. We are especially grateful to our speakers, panelists, IMPACT HSR ambassadors, and all of you who showed up to help us build this community together. 

Oct 2: Work in Progress from Sarang Yoon

Dr. Yoon shared her work in progress, Mobile Initiative for Sustained Support in Improving Obesity and Nutrition management for Force readiness through Integrated pharmacobehavioral Treatments (MISSION-FIT). 

Oct 16: Job Talk from Echo Warner

Dr. Warner presented her research, Transforming Pediatric Oncology Health Services with AI and Community Engagement. 

We also discussed the formation of a learning health system at Utah. If you are interested in joining an LHS task force, please email Valerie Vaughn.

CTSI Translational Research Trainee Symposium

Registration is now open for the annual Utah CTSI Translational Research Trainee Symposium. This full-day retreat brings together students, staff, and faculty from across the CTSI and University of Utah Health campus and will be held on November 6, 2025.

Time: 8am-6pm MT
Venue: Marriott University Park

PLEASE NOTE: This will take the place of our normal IMPACT Morning on Thursday, November 6.

DELPHI Symposium

The annual symposium will feature talks, posters, and networking opportunities highlighting the wide range of biomedical data science research happening at the University of Utah. A detailed schedule will be released in the coming months.

This one day event is open to everyone in the DELPHI community (faculty, trainees, and staff) and provides a great opportunity to expand your local network of data science researchers and form new interdisciplinary collaborations with researchers, clinicians, and educators across our campus.

IMPACT HSR Accountability Groups

We are organizing a small peer support group (5–8 members) designed to help members stay accountable, get feedback on works-in-progress, and support each other’s research and career development.

Meetings: 1 hour, once per month

Structure: Each meeting includes check-ins, a focused presentation with feedback, goal setting, and wrap-up

IMPACT Mornings will take place every Thursday from 9am-12pm on the third floor of the HELIX Building. Sessions will include:

Structured programming (10am-11am) featuring work-in-progress presentations, thematic discussions, invited speakers.

Unstructured time (9-10am and 11am-12pm) for informal networking, mentoring, and collaboration.
