Team Work and Co-Operation
Team Work and Co-Operation
Fall 2019 Newsletter
"Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision.  The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives.  It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results." - Andrew Carnegie
For many of us, the important lessons in life were solidified in our young minds through the timeless educational children's television series Sesame Street.  There was one lesson in particular regarding teamwork and cooperation in which a Muppet band fashioned after the Rolling Stones called The Cobbelstones performed the song "(I can't get no) Co-Operation".  The lead singer, Mick Swagger, proclaims how impossible it is to seesaw, jump rope, or play hide and seek by yourself.  You need co-operation. You need teamwork.
Similarly, Aubertine and Currier (A&C) relies on cooperation and teamwork in order to achieve successful outcomes on our design projects.  A&C has been fortunate to partner with some prodigious contractors and co-consultants thoughout its almost 20 years in business.  Below are some examples of recent A&C projects which enlisted the co-operation and teamwork of some very talented and experienced professions.
Have a Wonderful Fall!!!

Architecture
DASNY St. Lawrence Psychiatric Building  69 and 105 Roof Renovation
On April 15, 1944 Governor Thomas E. Dewey signed a law into effect that created the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) for the purpose of financing and constructing dormitories at eleven state teachers colleges.  Over the last 75 years, DASNY has grown into one of the largest financiers and builders of social infrastructure facilities in the United States, providing assistance for public and nonprofit private universities, not-for-profit healthcare facilities, and for other New York State related institutions which fall under their directive.
Aubertine and Currier (A&C) has partnered with DASNY on numerous projects, one of the most recent being the St. Lawrence Psychiatric Buildings 69 and 105 Roof Renovation.  The project requires the removal of the existing roof structures and installation of EPDM Roofing Membrane, as well as insulation, metal fascia, roof edge, flashing, roof drains, and downspouts.  A&C is providing Architectural Design and Construction Phase Services for the venture, including Bidding Services, Construction Administration, Construction Fieldwork, and Post Construction Deliverables.
Atlantic Testing Laboratories has teamed up with A&C to provide hazardous materials survey services, as well as hazardous materials abatement design specifications and drawings. Please follow this Link for further information regarding the project.

Samaritan Medical Center Women's Wellness Breast Care Center
Samaritan Medical Center (SMC) received $9.8 million in grant funding from NYS Healthcare Facility Transformation to renovate 33,350 sf of its 91,000 sf Medical Office Building on outer Washington Street.  The facility will become a new outpatient Comprehensive Healthcare Center expanding the multitude of services already offered at the present time. In particular, the SMC Women's Wellness Breast Care Center will bring services such as gynecology, obstetrics, breast health and related radiology, stereotactic, and testing services which are currently housed in various locations throughout the community under one roof.
Aubertine and Currier (A&C) co-operated with S/L/A/M Collaborative on the project which included a new entry lobby facade, 4 acres of parking lot reconstruction, 1.1 acre parking lot expansion, stormwater management, water and sewer upgrades and utility infrastructure upgrades to accommodate the new services at the 19 acre plaza property.
A&C's Structural Engineering Department contributed design services for the new entry area, which includes a cantilever roof overhang spanning 12 feet over the parking area.  Some of the other structural design requirements present on the project entail steel mechanical equipment supports, and additional reinforcing steel to strengthen existing masonry walls.  Please follow this Link for further information regarding the project.

Civil/Site Engineering

Development Authority of the North Country Materials Management Facility Southern Expansion
The Development Authority of the North Country (DANC) was created in 1985 by the New York State Legislature to develop and manage the infrastructure needed to support the reactivation of the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, and to serve the common interests of Jefferson, Lewis, and St. Lawrence counties.  As part of that directive, DANC operates the Regional Materials Management Facility in the Town of Rodman providing efficient, environmentally responsible disposal of non-hazardous solid waste for Jefferson, St. Lawrence, Lewis, and Hamilton counties.
The DANC Materials Management Facility Southern Expansion project is the permitting, building, and operating of an approximately 110 acre extension located directly south and west of the already existing disposal area.  The project will be completed in phases, with new landfill liner cells built over the next forty (40) to fifty (50) years as additional disposal capacity is needed.
The Civil/Site Engineering Department at Aubertine and Currier (A&C) teamed with Barton and Loguidice to provide Resident Project Representative (RPR) Personnel for the project.  The RPR is a continuous presence on the job site, providing examination and confirmation that all installation requirements are being met.  The RPR also provides written records and daily logs, review of documentation, and conducts construction inspections throughout the project.  Please follow this link for further information regarding the project.

Land Surveying
SUNY Cortland Site Lighting Topographic Survey
SUNY Cortland is located atop one of the rolling hills in central New York's "City of Seven Valleys." The College was founded in 1868 as Cortland Normal School, officially becoming a four-year college in 1948. The current campus encompasses 191 acres, and has an undergraduate and graduate enrollment of approximately 7,000 students.
Aubertine and Currier (A&C) partnered with C&S Companies to provide Professional Land Surveying Services in association with the University's Site Lighting Improvement Project. A&C completed a topographic survey of approximately 90 acres, documenting all existing features within the required survey limits. The area included roads, parking lots, buildings, sidewalks, curbs, trees and canopies, manhole structures, catch basins, culverts, light poles, above ground utilities, and visible evidence of underground utilities.  A tax map quality property line and right-of-way file was prepared, and a topographic survey map was completed and delivered in AutoCAD 2017 format.
LaFave, White & McGivern collaborated with A&C by providing professional services in the form of Digital Aerial Mapping, Aerial Lidar, Digital Orthophoto, and Topographic Mapping. Please follow this Link for further information regarding the project.
