Mothering Through Breastfeeding

by Angie Cantrell, MilkWorks O Director
As Director of MilkWorks in Omaha, my days are surrounded by new mothers and babies.  This week, as Mother’s Day approaches, I find myself reflecting on my own journey through motherhood. It seems like just yesterday my first daughter was born, yet now my third daughter is speaking in complete sentences! Motherhood for me has been a journey of ups and down, full of tears of joy and frustration, and a lot of laughter along the way. And yet, something continues to stay consistent - mothering through breastfeeding. Read more...

What We Don't Know About Mother's Milk

"Breast milk grows babies' bodies, fuels neurodevelopment, provides essential immunofactors and safeguards against famine and disease -- why, then, does science know more about tomatoes than mother's milk?"
Katie Hinde shares insights into this complex, life-giving substance and discusses the major gaps scientific research still needs to fill so we can better understand breast milk. Watch her TED talk here.

We Talk Seasonal Allergies with The Lactation Pharmacist

Spring has hit the Midwest, and so has the pollen! No one loves allergies and the discomfort they can cause. Breastfeeding moms are understandably concerned about treating their symptoms while protecting their milk supply.
Leslie Southard, otherwise known as The Lactation Pharmacist, is a pharmacist and certified lactation counselor, who specializes in medication and lactation. Together, we teamed up to provide the most up-to-date, evidence-based information as it relates to allergies and breastfeeding.

Welcome, CBEs!

MilkWorks is pleased to join hands with Partnership for a Healthy Lincoln to welcome twelve new culturally diverse Community Breastfeeding Educators (CBEs)!  With support from a Centers for Disease Control grant, women who are passionate about breastfeeding are now found throughout Lincoln supporting other mothers who share similar languages and cultures. Click here for more information on our CBE program.

Baby Carriers!

Warm weather is finally here and it's time to get outside! At MilkWorks, we carry a variety of baby carriers including Boba, Moby, and Maya, to meet the needs of your ever-growing family.

"I love my Maya Ring Sling! It allows me to nurse my youngest hands free while tending to my older children. I appreciate the fact that it lasts from the newborn stage, well into toddlerhood" - Angie C.
As a nonprofit, all proceeds from our retail sales go directly back to serving our mission - creating a healthier community by helping mothers breastfeed their babies.
