The Great Lakes District Gathering at Lakeside
August 21 & 22, 2015
On your way to Lakeside, Mark and Karen Langan have invited us to stop for a visit at Mulberry Creek Herb Farm. They are normally closed at this time of the year, but will be open for us to visit from 10 A.M. to 5 P.M. Stop in, say Hi, and enjoy their garden.
Plan on spending the rest of your Friday at Lakeside Chautauqua. Your gate fee includes full access to all that Lakeside has to offer and is included in your registration. You can play putt-putt, shuffleboard, enjoy the beach, sit in the pavilion and read a book, eat ice cream or enjoy the shopping district. There are many places to buy lunch, so purchase a box lunch, take it down to the many picnic tables and enjoy the lake
Friday evening we will be having dinner (on your own) at the Hotel Lakeside, a Historical Landmark with relaxing views of the Lake Erie Islands. After dinner the evening is yours to enjoy. The evening entertainment is the Lakeside Symphony’s closing concert featuring violinist Michael Ferri in the Hoover Auditorium.
Saturday Morning we will start the day after breakfast in Chautauqua Hall and Lakeside’s CEO, Kevin Sibling will welcome us and then our host Jan Hilty will take us on a guided garden tour featuring Lakeside’s herb garden, Ohio’s “Most Beautiful Mile” with gardens all along the lake, the tranquil Memorial Garden and ending in the community gardens. It is a 2-3 mile walk so dress comfortably and be prepared to tour rain or shine. There are many places to sit and rest along the way. Rental golf carts will also be available. Our afternoon will include Debra Knapke, HSA Honorary President, who will speak to us about”Simplifying Your Garden without Diminishing Your Joy”. Debra’s powerpoint presentation will use photos of her own garden and others’ to provide inspiration for the creation of a simpler, blissful garden. Susan Betz, will then share information about HSA’s Green Bridges program and Pat Crocker will show us how to “Put More Herbs on Your Fork!” Pat will share her love of herbs and will show us how to harness their healing benefits as she turns a traditional herbal standby into three different, fast, fresh dishes, using only her mortar and pestle. Pat’s new book will be available for purchase.
