You are Key to Sustaining Momentum

With broad support from employers, city leaders and passionate residents, the Des Moines Bicycle Collective made tremendous progress to make our community more active, healthy and inviting in 2017.

Bike Giveaway: Partnered with nonprofits, public schools and volunteers to donate refurbished bikes to children and adults in need.

Non-Profit Bike Share: Doubled our network. BCycle stations now stretch from Drake University to the Iowa State Capitol.

Advocacy: Made the case for unprecedented local investment in active transportation:

Des Moines received national attention for unanimous City Council approval to create “one of the country’s best downtown bike networks.”
Introduced protected bike lanes to the region.
Des Moines hired the first Active Transportation Planner dedicated to “work across city departments to coordinate walkable and bikeable infrastructure.”

Rock Star Parking: Provided convenient bike parking at favorite cultural events like 80/35 and the Downtown Farmers' Market for over 5,000 riders.

Recycled: Thousands of donated frames, tires, tubes and wheels were kept out of local landfills.
