Introducing BeaFreemason.org

At the recent Conference of Grand Masters in Louisville, Kentucky, Imperial Potentate Jeff Sowder, along with Scottish Rite Sovereign Grand Commanders David A. Glattly, 33° (Northern Masonic Jurisdiction), and James D. Cole, 33° (Southern Jurisdiction), announced a formal partnership on the Path Forward for Freemasonry.
As part of that initiative, the three leaders announced BeaFreemason.org, which features a wealth of information including an explanation of Masonic terms, lodge life, symbolism, degrees and family organizations. Launched in mid-February, this first-of-its-kind site introduces Freemasonry to men who are looking to "become the best version" of themselves. The site has a "Get in Touch" button, so prospects (in North America) can fill out a short form that will put them in touch with a Masonic leader in their local area. We hope you share this helpful site with men that you know who are committed to lives of honor, integrity and character.
In addition, Shriners International is currently working to refresh the look and content of BeaShrinernow.com. Check back soon for this updated site.

Shriners International Display at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial

On February 22, Imperial Sirs Jeff Sowder and Mark Hartz attended the ribbon cutting of the new Shriners International display at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial in Alexandria, Virginia. It is part of the Family of Freemasonry exhibit along with other Masonic organizations.
The display features four cases; one on the origins of the fraternity, another that explains who the Shriners are and what they do, one about Shriners Hospitals for Children®, and a case about the East-West Shrine Bowl™.
The displays contain many interesting artifacts, including:
- Book containing the first thousand membership petition forms of Mecca Shriners, dating back to 1870
- Historic temple publications, pins and glassware from the early 1900s
- Past Imperial Potentate Jack Jones' fez
- Shriners Hospitals letter written to a patient's family in 1934
- East-West Shrine Bowl football, program and ticket from the 1940s/1950s
If you plan to be in Alexandria or the greater Washington, D.C., area, we encourage you to visit the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, and take pride in seeing our fraternity on display.

Ballut Abyad Shriners of Albuquerque, New Mexico have a fun way to get the word out about the fraternity on social media. #ShrinersintheWild encourages members and families to share a selfie wearing Potentate Chris Leitch’s pin, tag the temple, use #ShrinersintheWild and share it on social media. It’s a great conversation starter to educate people about the fraternity and hospitals. The campaign can run indefinitely because the potentate’s pin was designed with the fez and temple name only.
Ballut Abyad technology committee chairman Michael Taormina borrowed the idea from another group. He’s revamping their social media with posts showing what members are doing. “It’s fine to write a great caption, but you need to show people, rather than tell, on social media,” Taormina said.
If your temple uses this idea, tag Ballut Abyad on Instagram and Facebook at @nmshriners and the hashtag #ShrinersintheWild, so they can share, too. Let’s see those #ShrinersintheWild.

Imperial Potentate's Visit to The Philippines

As our name indicates, Shriners International is truly an international organization with temples in several countries and thousands of clubs around the world. We are proud of our global family of nobles, who, together, are working to make the world a better place.
In January, our Imperial Potentate, Imperial Sir Jeff Sowder, had the experience of visiting the Philippines, along with Imperial Sir Kenny Craven.
Here are some highlights of his visit:
- Attended the Mabuhay Shriners Cultural Luncheon
- Installed Mabuhay Potentate, Illustrious Sir Eulallo "Ayong" Lorenzo and his officers
- Toured significant World War II sites
- Met with leadership at the Philippine Band of Mercy, where Mabuhay Shriners support the cleft lip and clubfoot program, and also at the Mabuhay Shriners Burn Unit at the East Avenue Medical Center
- Visited the Grand Lodge of the Philippines
- Experienced a multi-day Mabuhay ceremonial where 108 men became Shriners (This event included a parade where Imperial Sir Sowder was sprayed with a fire hose!)
"Cheryl and I greatly enjoyed our visit to Mabuhay Shriners in Manila. The enthusiasm these Nobles have for our fraternity is very refreshing and everyone takes great pride in being a Shrine-Mason," Sowder said.
