February 07, 2025
Dear Graduate Students,
As you may be aware, the UNC System Office issued a memo on February 5th instructing all UNC campuses, including UNCG, to suspend all general education and academic program requirements related to diversity, equity, and inclusion to comply with federal guidance. I want you to know that:
- You will receive credit for every course you complete.
- Your graduation progress will not be impacted.
- No courses will be canceled in the current term.
The System memo provides guidance that any student currently enrolled in any impacted Spring 2025 course may choose to withdraw from the course without penalty. No students are required to withdraw from any courses. You will receive elective credit for the course if you complete the course as planned. Students should confer with their academic advisor to ensure all other degree requirements, including the total number of credit hours, are met. More information regarding changes to our curriculum and graduation requirements, and the advising of directly impacted students, will follow as implementation decisions are made.
We recognize that significant changes to the curriculum after the start of a semester are confusing and challenging to manage. Please know that the hard work you’ve already done will be honored; you will receive appropriate credit for all courses you complete.
With best wishes,
Gregory C. Bell
Dean of Graduate Education
