Change is coming
The newest member of the Carnival Cruise Line fleet, the Mardi Gras, is achieving many "firsts" in the cruise industry. The most anticipated part of the cruise restart is here.
On July 31st, last Saturday, the Mardi Gras set sail from Port Canaveral, FL as the first cruise to leave Port Canaveral with paying passengers since the cruise cessation. With a reduced capacity of 60%, 19 decks and a length of 1,130 ft long, social distancing is more than possible. Far more safety measures are in place, vaccination requirements being the top priority. All crew member are fully vaccinated with 95% of passengers vaccinated, as well. The families with children too young for vaccination make up only 5%, and they will be following stricter protocols.
The beginning of a new era of cruise vessels has begun. Mardi Gras is the first liquified natural gas (LNG) powered ship in North America, meaning minimal pollution and cleaner air. This advancement is leading the way for green technology in the cruise industry.
The Mardi Gras has also created an industry first and one that no one would expect to find on a cruise. This ship features a fully functional rollercoaster with astounding 360° views, known as BOLT. This exciting new ride is 800 ft long, holds two riders, and has a top speed of 45 mph. From thrill seekers to scenery marvelers, the ability to control the speed while riding has this venture appealing to many.
