Family Office Investing Strategies in 2020

Over the past decade, the number of family offices globally has increased by more than 10X.  More importantly, these offices manage north of $4 trillion in assets.  Singly and combined, they now do deals previously reserved for larger financial institutions.  And they’re active . . . and smart, with professional investment management and operational expertise.  To get insights into this rapidly evolving financial heavyweight and their thinking on investments, strategies, and smart money decisions in this time of turmoil, join our expert panel Thursday, May 21st at the Southwest Venture Forum ONLINE.  All ticket proceeds will be donated to the Prison Entrepreneurship Program and the ticket price is pay-as-you-can, click here to register!

Panelists include:
Andy Swartz, Chief Investment Officer of the J. Cleo Thompson Family Office.

Benjamin Carpenter, President of Miramar Holdings, a family office multi-strategy investment firm.

Matt Ogle, CEO and Founding Partner of Legacy Knight Multi-family Office.

The panel will be moderated by John Terry, Founder, and President of ChurchillTerry.

Southwest Venture Forum

In 1990, the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship assumed responsibility for operating the Southwest Venture Forum, which had been founded by a local venture capital firm in 1984.

The Southwest Venture Forum is a non-profit forum where entrepreneurs seeking to start or build a business can meet with sources of capital and professionals to facilitate the acquisition of financing and to obtain advice and information. The membership includes entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, bankers, attorneys, trade association representatives, accountants, and consultants who have experience working with early and intermediate stage growth-oriented entrepreneurs and their firms.

The non-profit forum is a bimonthly breakfast meeting (before COVID-19) where entrepreneurs looking to start or expand their businesses meet with venture investors and the professional community to solicit financing and obtain advice.  Entrepreneurs present business plans or executive summaries that describe:

     The opportunity and business concept.
The existing or proposed products and/or services.
The industry and target markets in which they will operate.
     Accomplishments of key management personnel.
Summarized financial projections of sales, profits, and cash flows.
What they are seeking in terms of financing to build their company.

Following the presentations by selected entrepreneurs, current venture financing topics are discussed by prominent investors or expert panels. Membership in the forum consists of entrepreneurs, venture investors, bankers, attorneys, accountants, and consultants working with early- and intermediate-stage growth-oriented entrepreneurs and their firms.

Benefiting the Prison Entrepreneurship Program

Since COVID-19 hit, we have temporarily moved the meeting online instead of canceling the event.  What this means is that you decided on the amount you want to pay.  If you are not financially able currently, we welcome you too.  Please make sure you register.  All sales proceeds will go to support the Prison Entrepreneurship Program (PEP).

As you know, starting a business is hard, but can you imagine what that must be like for someone who wants to start a company but has been labeled as an “ex-cons?”   Click here to learn more about the PEP program.

Based on our last webinar experience, there is a space limit too.  Therefore register early and share this opportunity often.

ABOUT THE CARUTH INSTITUTE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP

W.W. Caruth, Jr. established the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship at SMU in August 1970.
Mr. Caruth created the center to help people:
 • Learn by doing
 • Experience the pleasures, thrills, excitement, and satisfaction of building their businesses
 • Learn that business consists of putting yourself in a position to be lucky
 • Learn to overcome every obstacle by your wits and intelligence and to accept adversity as a learning experience

This year, we are celebrating our 50th anniversary as the longest-standing center of its kind in the world, the Caruth Institute offers education and training for today’s entrepreneur who competes in a rapidly changing, fast-paced, technology-driven environment.
