Our technical assistance program supports Latina entrepreneurs, like Gabriela Mendoza, thanks to public investments from the city of Vancouver, Beaverton, and the Portland Development Commission.
Gabriela Mendoza wanted to turn her passion of cooking into a business, but needed guidance understanding the laws, regulations, and resources available before she could start.
She visited the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber last year to get help obtaining the necessary licenses and permits to open a Mexican fruit store, Frutas Locas. Our Vancouver Business Develoment Coordinator helped Gabriela get her state and city business license, as well as other necessary permits she needed, and navigate various Washington state agencies.
Gabriela also received help on how to use social media to promote her business. She used Facebook advertising and Google Business Apps to generate more than 1,700 hundred fans on her business page.
In less than one year Frutas Locas has become a top destination for delicious Mexican fruit snacks. The store has also become a popular place for the community to enjoy friendly conversations over a tasty snack.
Our Business Development Coordinators also support entrepreneurs with business coaching, contract negotiation, lease review, financial control systems, marketing plan development, and a variety of other critical services. For more information on our program visit our website.
