Drake wins regional ABA Arbitration Competition
Drake's teams finished first and third at the regional ABA Law Student Division Arbitration Competition. The team of Gabe Walsh, Olivia Brooks, Rachael Irlbeck, and Jordan Garrison-Nickerson will compete in the national ABA Arbitration Competition in January. This marks the fourth year in a row Drake has advanced to the national finals.
Middleton Center advocates for juvenile rule banning shackles
Thanks to the work of Drake's Middleton Center for Children’s Rights, Iowa banned the routine use of restraints on juveniles during court proceedings. Professor Brent Pattison led students in conducting research on the issue, organized a coalition of organizations to propose the rule change, and advocated for the rule at Iowa State Bar Association trainings. The rule will become effective Jan. 1.
1Ls compete before Iowa Court of Appeals
The Iowa Court of Appeals judged the final round of the C. Edwin Moore Competition, an oral advocacy competition organized by the Drake Moot Court Board for 1Ls during the fall semester. More than 30 participants in the preliminary rounds were narrowed down to 12 semi-finalists, then four finalists. Lucas Asbury was selected as the winner.
Nominate Drake Law alumni for awards
Drake Law School is now accepting nominations for 2018 alumni awards! Nominate an outstanding alumnus for Alumni of the Year or Recent Alumni of the Year (for those who have graduated in the past 15 years). Winners will be recognized at the 81st Annual Supreme Court Celebration Banquet and Awards Ceremony on March 24.

Drake Law student helps immigrants in Iowa
Raziel Argueta comes from a family of immigrants. Today, he is a second-year Drake Law student and a law clerk at the Law Office of Sonia Parras, PLLC in Des Moines, where he works on immigration cases.
Q&A with Professor Natalie Banta
Get to know Natalie Banta, who joined Drake this fall as an associate professor of law. She teaches Wills and Trusts, Property, and Federal Income Tax, has published articles on digital asset inheritance, and presents on the topic at conferences nationwide.
Drake Law alumna works for LA County Public Defender's Office
Nicole Rommero, LW'13, is an attorney at the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office, where she handles misdemeanor offenses ranging from domestic violence, prostitution, and battery to assault with a deadly weapon.

Samantha Gronewald, LW'03, was appointed district court judge in Iowa's Judicial District 5C.
Patrick McElyea, LW'08, was appointed district court judge in the Seventh Judicial District in Iowa.
Bryan Dearinger, LW'05, was promoted to associate general counsel at the University of Oregon's Office of General Counsel.
Thomas Murphy, LW'92, was appointed district court judge in Iowa's Judicial District 5A.
Tiffany Meredith, AS'06, LW'09, was named lead criminal prosecutor for the Story County Attorney's Office.
Michael Staab, LW'81, received the 2017 Fort Hays State University Alumni Achievement Award.
Jeffrey J. Wolf, LW'89, was named a Best Lawyer in America and Best Lawyer in Texas in the field of railroad law in the Wall Street Journal.
Edward Tarlov, LW'84, was named a Top Lawyer 2017 in the area of real estate by Delaware Today magazine. 
Nicholas Gral, LW'17, and Alecia Meuleners, LW'13, joined Whitfield & Eddy as associate attorneys.
Shannon Holmberg, LW'17, joined Davis Brown Law Firm as an associate in the business division.
Trent Hilding, LW'04, was featured in an article in The Daily News about using his legal expertise to help local farmers.
Jerry Harmison Jr., LW'87, was appointed associate judge of the 31st Judicial Circuit in Missouri.
Angel West, LW'97, was named among the Top 250 Women in Litigation by Benchmark Litigation.
