Drake hosts Intro to American Law program for Chinese students
Drake Law School hosted 29 law students from the Southwest University of Political Science & Law (SWUPL) in Chongqing, China. The four-week visit was part of the Law School’s second annual Introduction to American Law program. The students attended courses taught by Drake Law faculty and participated in field trips to observe a jury trial, visit with Iowa legislators, tour Des Moines businesses, and more.
Drake Law receives $500,000 grant for Entrepreneurial Clinic
Drake’s Neal and Bea Smith Legal Clinic received a $500,000 grant from the Iowa Supreme Court for a new Entrepreneurial Clinic to assist current and aspiring entrepreneurs in low-income neighborhoods. The clinic offers a full range of free business and legal services, including trademark protection, entity formation, contracts, licensing agreements, and leases.
Drake Law student’s work leads to new Iowa revenge porn law
Drake Law student Erin Romar worked with Julie Smith, director of the Drake Legislative Practice Center, and other faculty to draft a bill that criminalizes revenge porn, which is the act of posting sexually explicit content of an individual on social media without that person's consent and with intent to harm. Iowa Gov. Branstad signed the bill into law in May.
Drake signs agreement with three HBCUs
Drake signed agreements with three Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs): Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo.; Lincoln University in Lincoln University, Pa.; and Kentucky State University in Frankfort, Ky. The agreements offer qualified students at those institutions guaranteed scholarships to Drake's law and pharmacy programs as part of an ongoing effort to increase diversity among the student body.

Drake 3L interns for international criminal tribunal in The Hague
Third-year Drake Law student Hannah Weeg spent the summer in The Hague interning for the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), a United Nations court of law prosecuting war crimes that took place in the Balkans in the 1990s.
Company co-founded by Drake Law alumnus provides lighting around the world
The Olympics. Super Bowls. The Statue of Liberty. Hollywood movie sets. These are among the many projects lit by Musco Lighting, an Oskaloosa, Iowa-based company co-founded by Joe Crookham, LW’68.

Hayley Hanson, LW'00, was named a Top Business Practitioner by Missouri Lawyers Weekly.
Benjamin Lynch, LW'16, and John Podmeyer, LW'16, joined Hupy and Abraham.
Jeffrey Waldron, LW'07, rejoined Moss & Barnett.
William Renn Gade, LA'82, LW'85, was named general counsel of the Defense Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C.
Timothy Schelwat, LW'97, was named a Top 100 Lawyer by the National Trial Lawyers.
