On behalf of the Board of Governors of the Law Commission of Ontario (LCO), I am pleased to announce the appointment of Aneurin (Nye) Thomas as the next Executive Director of the Law Commission.  Nye has had a distinguished career at Legal Aid Ontario, most recently serving as Director General, Policy and Strategic Research. Nye has expressed his admiration for the excellence of the Commission’s evidence-based research and is excited to be working with all the LCO staff and the Board of Governors to continue producing high quality reports while engaging with the Province’s legal and social justice communities. I am confident that under Nye’s leadership, the Commission will continue to maintain the highest standards in legal research and law reform initiatives. Nye will join the LCO on October 19th, 2015 as the Executive Director Designate.

Dr. Patricia Hughes, the LCO's founding Executive Director, had earlier indicated to the Board her intention to retire in the Fall of 2015. Patricia graciously agreed to extend her term until December 14th, 2015.  Patricia has had a transformative impact on the Commission and on law reform in Ontario and beyond.  We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Patricia for her considerable efforts over the past eight years. We will advise separately on our plans to recognize Patricia's many and lasting contributions as well as further details on the transition.

At the conclusion of Patricia's term, Nye will commence his term as Executive Director of the LCO.  During the transition, I know Nye will want to learn as much about the LCO as possible and will be meeting with our friends and supporters.

Au nom du Conseil des gouverneurs de la Commission du droit de l’Ontario (CDO), je suis heureux d’annoncer la nomination d’Aneurin (Nye) Thomas à titre de prochain directeur exécutif de la Commission. M. Thomas a eu une carrière distinguée à Aide juridique Ontario, où il occupait tout récemment le poste de directeur général des politiques et de la recherche stratégique. Exprimant son admiration pour l’excellence de la recherche de la Commission, qui se fonde sur des données probantes, il s’est dit enthousiaste à l’idée de travailler avec le personnel de la CDO et le Conseil des gouverneurs afin de continuer à produire des rapports de grande qualité et à collaborer avec le secteur de la justice sociale et la communauté juridique de la province. Je suis persuadé que sous la direction de Nye Thomas, la Commission continuera à maintenir des normes élevées dans ses travaux de recherche juridique et ses initiatives de réforme du droit. M. Thomas joindra les rangs de la CDO le 19 octobre 2015 en tant que directeur exécutif désigné.

Mme Patricia Hughes, la directrice exécutrice fondatrice de la CDO, avait déjà fait part au Conseil de son intention de prendre sa retraite à l’automne  2015. Elle a généreusement accepté de prolonger son mandat jusqu’au 14 décembre 2015. Mme Hugues a eu une influence transformatrice sur la Commission et sur la réforme du droit en Ontario et ailleurs. Nous lui sommes extrêmement redevables de ses efforts considérables au cours des huit dernières années. Nous vous informerons sous pli séparé de nos plans en vue de souligner ses nombreuses contributions durables ainsi que des détails concernant la transition.

À la fin du mandat de Mme Hughes, M. Thomas assumera les fonctions de directeur exécutif de la CDO. Durant la transition, je n’ai aucun doute qu’il voudra apprendre à mieux connaître la CDO et rencontrer nos amis et alliés.
