Thank you so much for being a part of Backyard Biodiversity, our upcoming family-friendly exhibition. We’re delighted to feature the books and illustrations of the Children’s Writers and Illustrators of British Columbia Society, and hope you will join us in celebrating the opening of this exhibition.
A VIP reception will take place in the Niche Café from 11:00am - 12:00pm (coffee, juice and treats will be provided), and then we will head downstairs into the museum for readings and art activities until 3:00pm.

About the Exhibition
Backyard Biodiversity invites you to read, write, draw, and discover BC’s nature through the stories and illustrations of BC authors and artists.
Featuring the books and artwork of CWILL BC (Children’s Writers and Illustrators of BC) members, this exhibition showcases the biodiversity in our backyards, parks, forests and beaches. Immerse yourself in nature through reading, writing and art making – come in to read a story or write a poem, to sketch an animal, or to simply observe the beautiful artwork and specimens on display. Story time will take place daily under the blue whale, or join us on the weekend for a puppet show.
The Beaty Biodiversity Museum is proud to present the work of CWILL BC (Children’s Writers and Illustrators of BC) members, as well as a variety of specimens from the museum’s collections.

Parking
The nearest parking is in Health Sciences Parkade, one block south of the museum across East Mall. For more information on how to get to the museum, please click here.

About the Museum
The Beaty Biodiversity Museum strives to inspire an understanding of biodiversity, its origins, and importance to humans through collections-based research, education and outreach. As Vancouver’s natural history museum, we work to promote a greater sense of collective responsibility for the biodiversity of British Columbia, Canada, and the world. The unique combination of world-class research, paired with beautiful, compelling exhibits, strives to make the research conducted at UBC more accessible to the public.

Explore the university’s spectacular biological collections, with 20,000 square feet of exhibits showcasing over 500 permanent exhibits. Among our two million treasured specimens are a 26-metre-long blue whale skeleton suspended in the atrium, the third-largest fish collection in Canada, and myriad fossils, shells, insects, fungi, mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and plants from around BC and across the world.
