New Toolkit and Webinar: Using ICE Contracts & Inspections to End Abusive Detention
How to understand and use detention contracts and inspections to advocate for profound change and closure within the immigration detention system
Using ICE Contracts & Inspections to End Abusive Detention is a new toolkit by the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) and Detention Watch Network (DWN) as a follow-up to the August report on ICE contracting and the October report on the ICE inspections process
The toolkit is designed to help you with the basics of how to read and understand immigration detention contracts and inspections, and how to use these documents to advocate around various detention issues, such as shutting down detention centers, improving detention center conditions, and increasing accountability and transparency for ICE and other detention center operators.
In this toolkit you will find:
  • Guidance on how-to launch a local campaign, advocate with decision-makers and use the media
  • An overview of immigration detention contracts and inspections
  • Background information on immigration detention
  • Policy recommendations and talking points
The toolkit is available at: immigrantjustice.org/TransparencyandHumanRights

“Using ICE Contracts & Inspections to End Abusive Detention,” a webinar presented by NIJC and DWN, will provide an orientation to the toolkit and highlight key information in the FOIA documents. With this webinar, we’ll begin to strategize how these documents can be used in local and national advocacy to end abusive immigration detention.
