11 Members Named to Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments
Gov. Bill Haslam announced 11 members to the Governor’s Council for Judicial Appointments who will be responsible for recommending candidates to fill vacancies in Tennessee trial and appellate courts. The council was established via executive order after a recently passed constitutional amendment created a method for selecting judges of the Supreme Court or intermediate appellate courts in Tennessee. New Fellows Recognized at Tennessee Bar Foundation Reception
The Tennessee Bar Foundation held its annual reception and dinner Jan. 9, 2015. As part of the program, the organization welcomed its newest class of Fellows, a group of 29 people. The class includes a Tennessee Supreme Court justice, circuit court judge, assistant U.S. attorney and former U.S. attorney general. You can see the full list of fellows here
Selection Process for New Magistrate Judge Has Been Set
The U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee at Nashville has been given authorization for the appointment of a full-time magistrate judge by the Judicial Conference of the United States. Applications are being accepted until 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 17. All applications must be submitted in person. The new magistrate will replace Judge Juliet Griffin. For more information, click here.

Online TN Justice Program Being Recognized and Replicated
The ABA Pro Bono Year in Review featured Tennessee’s innovative Online TN Justice pro bono platform. This platform is a joint project by the Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services and the Tennessee Bar Association. Private attorneys volunteer their time to answer legal questions from qualified clients through this system. Bill Jones of the ABA Center for Pro Bono recognized how other states, including Alabama, Indiana, Minnesota and South Carolina, have adopted similar programs.

Hockey and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Combined
On Feb. 24, the Bridgestone Arena will host a two-hour Predators CLE event. Nashville Predators attorney Sean Marshall will discuss legal issues facing players as well as other sports law issues. Along with this discussion, there will be a pregame social hour and attendees will receive tickets to the Nashville Predators vs. Colorado Avalanche game that evening. 2015 Women of Influence Lawyers Honored
On Jan. 8, the 2015 Women of Influence Awards recipients were announced in the Nashville Business Journal. The recipients will be honored at a Feb. 25 luncheon at the Omni Nashville Hotel. Attorneys were awarded under the Community Supporter, Company Executive, Inspiration/Mentor, Public Policy and Trailblazer categories.
