TRSL membership and enrollment tips!
Index 2.0 - TRSL Membership
Feeling overwhelmed with a ton of new hires to enroll?
Did you know that you can process an enrollment with an anticipated future start date once you have determined the employee is eligible for TRSL?
The law requires enrollment no later than 60 days for active members and 30 days for retirees from their official employment start date. However, TRSL will allow an enrollment once the hiring action is finalized, even if the official start date is in the future.

What if they don’t follow through with the employment?
It's okay... you just need to send an email to your Accountant Liaison, providing the name and SSN of the person who will not be working. Your liaison will delete the enrollment for you.
What if I enter an incorrect enrollment date?
Simply send an email to your Accountant Liaison to change the date. We'll correct it right away.
Determining TRSL enrollment eligibility
Sometimes it can be a little challenging to determine if an employee is eligible to be enrolled in TRSL. Index 2.0 has the information you need for special cases, such as:
  • Part-time, seasonal, or temporary employees (includes information on adjunct instructors for higher education agencies),
  • Employees who will work in the U.S. on a visa, and
  • Employees who must contribute to two different systems
For more information on TRSL eligibility requirements and enrollment procedures, review Index 2.0. Agencies can also contact their assigned Accountant Liaison for additional assistance.
"Mastering the Manual" takes you through the TRSL Employer Procedures Manual, index by index, to give you helpful tips and guidance that will make your job easier. Look for it in your inbox each couple of weeks!
