February 3, 2022
Dear Students and Colleagues:
Due to the ongoing winter storm, Ball State University’s physical campus closure is being extended to 7 a.m., Saturday, February 5.
All courses during the closure will be held online; all nonessential employees should work remotely, to the extent possible; all essential employees must report for work in person.
The following details pertain only to the physical campus closure timeframe:
Students
All courses on Friday, February 4, will be held online. Instructors should soon communicate with students on the next steps and expectations for Friday classes.
Residence halls will remain open, and front desk operations will continue, but Housing and University Apartments offices will remain closed.
University dining services will be fully operational.
The Health Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Quick Clinic, Women’s Clinic, and Physical Therapy offices will remain closed.
The Student Center will maintain regular hours of operation on Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Bracken Library will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, but branches and Archives and Special Collections will remain closed during the physical campus closure.
Recreation services, including the Jo Ann Gora Student Recreation and Wellness Center and Ball Gym, will operate normally, as will sports and athletics facilities.
Charlie’s Charter and campus shuttle busses will not be operational during the physical campus closure.
Faculty
All courses on Friday will be held online. Instructors should soon communicate with students on the next steps and expectations for Friday classes.
Employees
All nonessential employees should continue to work remotely, to the extent possible. Nonessential employees should communicate with their direct supervisor with questions about those arrangements.
All essential employees are expected to report in person, as scheduled by their supervisor. Your supervisor is your best source for understanding your role and duties as essential personnel.
Students, faculty, and all employees should plan for resumption of full and normal operations University-wide at 7 a.m. Saturday, February 5. In-person class instruction will resume on Monday, February 7.
At this time, we encourage everyone in our campus community to avoid unnecessary travel for at least the upcoming 24-hour period. Please allow University, city, county, and state crews to work unobstructed as they clear roadways, sidewalks, and other public areas.
Additionally, for anyone in the Ball State campus community who has a vehicle located in University parking lots, please demonstrate patience and understanding in the coming days. Clearing parking lots of snow will take time. Further, you should anticipate the potential need to dig your vehicle out of high drifts and snow buildup. Please dress appropriately and be willing to provide help to fellow Cardinals in need.
And finally, as always, in the case of an emergency, call University Police – which will remain fully operational during the physical campus closure -- at 765-285-1111 or dial 911.
