2024 Pitch Competition @ Innovation Day
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) is hosting its 2024 Innovation Day on September 25, 2024. This event aims to foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship within our community by providing a platform for aspiring, innovators and researchers to showcase their groundbreaking ideas and gain valuable insights into commercializing their innovations.
Innovation Day is designed to encourage and promote innovative thinking, highlight entrepreneurial talent, facilitate knowledge sharing, connect stakeholders, and encourage collaboration between academia, industry, and the entrepreneurial community to drive innovation and economic development.

Important Opportunity for Freshman Students: CITI Program Registration Assistance

We are excited to offer an essential session for freshman students at SHSU, helping them navigate the registration process for the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) program. This session will take place on September 5, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM in LSC 230. Snacks will be provided.
The CITI program is crucial for students' academic and research pursuits, providing foundational knowledge in research compliance. Early training and registration will enhance their preparedness, support their academic success, and open doors to valuable research opportunities.
Please encourage your freshman students to attend this session, where they will also have the chance to meet me and gain insights into research compliance resources. This is a valuable opportunity for students to build a strong foundation for their academic careers.

Writing a Grant Proposal Over the Summer?
Come over to our office for our Grantastic Tuesdays writing hours!
Every Tuesday 1:00-4:00 p.m. through the summer, you can stop by our collaborative space to get help from our Proposal Development and Submissions & Awards staff. We can assist you with any questions or needs specific to your project, the grant process, services available - or even if you would like a quiet workspace to brainstorm and work on your proposal.
We are located in the Sam South plaza (same as the University Police Department and Facilities Management).

The Office of Research & Sponsored Programs and the Center for Innovation, Technology, and Entrepreneurship at Sam Houston State University is excited to announce our Faculty Commercialization Program. This founder-driven initiative is designed to support researchers at various stages of commercialization, from those with just an idea to those preparing SBIR/STTR grant applications.
Who Can Participate?
- Researchers with an idea but uncertain of commercialization pathways.
- Researchers interested in starting a company, whether or not they have a team.
- Researchers needing a crash course in developing a commercialization plan for their SBIR/STTR grant applications.

SHSU will host our third annual TEDxSHSU on October 9, 2024. In the spirit of TED’s mission, “Ideas worth spreading,” we invite faculty, staff, students, alumni, community members, and regional thought leaders interested in giving a 10 to 15-minute TEDxSHSU talk to submit a proposal. TEDx events highlight big ideas from local experts, researchers, thinkers, doers, artists, innovators, community leaders, and change-makers.

USDA PPA
The USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has announced its FY25 Implementation plan for the Plant Protection Act (PPA) program. APHIS is offering funding opportunities for projects organized around specific goal areas that represent critical needs and opportunities to strengthen against, prevent, detect, and mitigate invasive plant pests and diseases. These goals are:
1. Enhance plant pest and disease analysis and survey.
2. Target domestic inspection activities at vulnerable points in the safeguarding continuum.
3. Enhance and strengthen pest identification and technology.
4. Safeguard nursery production.
5. Conduct targeted outreach and education.
6. Increase mitigation and rapid response capabilities.
