The Directors of Catoctin, Shiloh, Opequon, and Teen Adventure Quaker Camps recently wrote a special letter to all our campers. Children are especially vulnerable to the conflict, vitriol, and fear gripping our country, and BYM Camps will be a refuge for more than 550 young people this summer. Thank you to our Directors for their loving leadership and care of our young people.

| BYM Educational Scholarship Application Now Open
Each year, BYM awards up to $20,000 in scholarships to members or regular attenders of Monthly Meetings associated with BYM (or from their children). These grants may be applied to expenses associated with undergraduate attendance at accredited post-secondary educational institutions. The BYM Working Group on War and Militarism is encouraging Monthly Meetings to write a minute expressing concern over the potential for the use of nuclear weapons. The purpose of this effort is:
- Urge Monthly Meetings to become educated in the current danger and possible actions to change existing policy.
-
Write and share a minute with other local faith communities and organizations, inviting a wider discussion.
- Building the broadest possible base of support can become essential to generating a popular movement for change.

National Reparations Rally, May 17
Please join members of BYM’s Reparations Action Working Group between 11:00 and 5:00 at the rally near Capitol Hill in DC. We will make a plan to meet! It would be great to gather 40 BYM Friends and other Friends together for this event. Come hear speeches given by the people who are successfully working for reparations around the country – including in Maryland. It is also our chance to reach out as Friends and support a movement that can bring equity and peace to our country. Information about the rally is here: Please let us know if you are able to be there or if you have questions –at reparations@bym.rsf.org or friendmarcy@gmail.com.

Major Progress at Opequon Quaker Camp at Rolling Ridge
Many hands have been hard at work the last few weeks, and major progress has been made preparing Opequon Quaker Camp for its second summer season. Five brand new cabins are fully complete and are currently undergoing final building inspections for occupancy permits. Six new stalls are up in the shower house (which also received a new coat of paint), three new flush toilets have been installed in main camp, a footbridge has been laid to the new fire circle, and the underground tanks for the cabin-area composting toilets have been installed! Opequon is well on its way to opening day! Tremendous thank yous to the many donors, volunteers, staff, and vendors who continue to bring our new arts camp property to life!
