Giving to Our Lakers
The Dean of Students Emergency Fund

With holiday season upon us, we know that there are many opportunities to give and many organizations requesting resources and donations. The Dean of Students office and the students we serve would be grateful if you were to consider donating to the Dean of Students Emergency Fund this year to help students in need overcome small financial barriers to their overall education.

The Dean of Students Emergency Fund helps all students meet small financial needs after they have exhausted all other financial aid resources. Last year, our division fund was able to help 21 different students with various needs ranging from unexpected medical bills to transportation costs and technology support. This school year, we’ve already been able to help an additional 7 students, and we hope to support even more.

GV Career Center Exploration Process
Exploring Careers with the GV Career Center
If your student is struggling to pick a major or is unsure if they are on the right track, check out the GVSU Career Center’s self-guided career exploration process. This four-step process encourages students to establish their values, explore their industry options, set goals, and take action!
To become more connected with fellow students, employers, resources, and communication directly related to industries, students are encouraged to join a Career Community. Career Communities are a great career exploration tool for investigating career paths, learning about events in a field of interest, and staying up to date on the world of work. For more information, visit www.gvsu.edu/careers.

GVSU Let's Talk

Let's Talk!

If you have a student who isn’t quite ready to make the leap into counseling or would benefit from working through a particular issue with a professional, the University Counseling Center offers Let’s Talk. Let’s Talk isn’t mental health treatment, but Let’s Talk counselors can listen to specific problems, help explore solutions, and introduce a student to what it’s like to speak with a member of the University Counseling Center staff. Students can talk one-on-one with a counselor and seek professional advice without having to sign up for counseling.  It is free for currently enrolled students and no appointment is necessary.

Housing and Residence Life

My College Roomie is Open for upperclassmen, transfers, and returners. Find your roommate for next year now!
My College Roomie: Connecting Lakers with Their Next Roomie
If your Laker is a returning student, upperclassman, or transfer student that is planning on living on-campus next year, make sure to tell them to log into My College Roomie!

Even if they know who they will be living with next year, they will need to log in and connect with their roommate. If they are planning on living alone, it's still helpful to log in and connect with others just in case a future roommate need arises. We have limited single spaces available.

Questions? Students can call the Central Housing Office at 616-331-2120 for more information.
