Hispanic Heritage Month is almost here, and programming has already begun! The month-long initiative will include virtual highlights of Seton Hall community members, academic and artistic work, and events that explore the diversity of Latin American descent, history, food, music, and more.

September 8: Hispanic Heritage Mass on Friday, September 8 at 8 p.m. The Office of Hispanic Ministry of the Archdiocese of Newark welcomes us all to attend its annual Hispanic Heritage Mass in Newark's Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart. Humanities Colloquium
On September 7 at 3:30 p.m. in the UC Chancellor Suite, we welcome to campus Dr. Zena Hitz of St. John’s University. Her lecture will touch on the meaning and value of learning, the liberal arts, and intellectual life.

The Black Student Union Back-to-School Kickoff will be held Thursday September 8 at 7:30 p.m. Come and join the Black Student Union for our very first event of the semester! You'll meet the new e-board, learn about the history of BSU at Seton Hall, and get to know your peers better with a fun activity.

DEI Anti-Racism Training
DEI Anti-Racism Training returns September 15 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in-person in the Campus Inclusion Center, Room 209 2nd floor of University Center on the South Orange campus. Join members from the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee for an interactive workshop on anti-racism and exploring race, bias, and identity. Develop strategies and learn more about campus resources that can help you become an upstander and ally. Register here.

September 13: Mass of the Holy Spirit (No Classes 12:30-1:30 p.m.)
Join us in celebrating the beginning of the New Academic Year by asking the Holy Spirit to inspire our Minds, Hearts and Spirits! The Seton Hall University Community is invited to join us in prayer and to celebrate our Annual Mass of the Holy Spirit in the University Center. All Classes are Cancelled. 12:30 -1:30 p.m. in the Event Room, University Center.

- September 8: International Literacy Day aims to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities, and societies.

September 11: Patriot Day commemorates the lives of those who perished in the 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Virginia and those who perished when the hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in Pennsylvania. Patriot Day also recognizes those who perished attempting to rescue people trapped by the attacks.

September 11: Enkutatash, the Ethiopian New Year. Enkutatash means the 'gift of jewels'. This holiday marks 1 Meskerem, the first day in the Ethiopian calendar.

The South Orange Downtown Food Stroll & Pub Crawl will return on Sunday, September 10 from 1-4 p.m. to South Orange. Don’t miss your chance to taste the local flavor! This tasting event showcases the diverse restaurants and unique retailers. Participating businesses will set up tasting stations inside their restaurant or retail space. The Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration on Friday, September 15, 5:30 - 10 p.m. at Biertuempful Park – 1300 Winslow Ave. in Union, NJ. The Township of Union is proud to be hosting its Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration where they celebrate the culture, achievements, and contributions of Hispanics and Latinos in the United States. “Unidos Juntos de Nuevo” Artwork Display from the West Orange Arts Council (Saturdays) from September 16 to October 22 11 a.m. - 4 p.m. 551 Valley Rd. West Orange, NJ 07052. WOAC’s exhibit for Hispanic Heritage Month “Unidos Juntos de Nuevo” (United Together Again) celebrates our multicultural community with a diverse tapestry of backgrounds, stories, and experiences.
