If you’ve attended an Equinox user group or been a Protector or TeleLink customer for a while, you’ve likely heard the term ‘release notes.’ Even so, you may not be sure what they are or how to best use them. Equinox creates release notes with EVERY system release to inform ALL stakeholders about the latest product news. This article explores everything release notes has to offer, so you can fully benefit from this readily available and valuable resource.
What are release notes? Release notes are the best, easiest way to know about changed and new features in TeleLink or Protector. Equinox writes release notes to:
- Outline all new features in the general release
- Explain customer-requested changes
- Report WISH LIST enhancements
- Provide necessary configuration steps
- Highlight any difference between the latest product and prior releases
Who should read release notes? Release notes are designed for the entire Equinox community, including all Protector and TeleLink users, as well as Equinox support, sales, and training personnel. You should read release notes to learn about the newest application features, know how to fully leverage all areas of the system, explore additional benefits of other modules, learn time- and money-saving tips, or track the progress of your company’s requested changes.
Why are release notes worth my time? Because release notes highlight every new and changed item in the currently released version—along with any needed configuration for it—you can hit the ground running after a system update. Concise summaries make for quick, easy reading. Rather than pages of text only, release notes rely heavily on screenshots to caption and demonstrate the new feature or changed function. Finally, release notes allow you to keep a running log of your installation’s progression, so you can quickly track features and benefits.
How are release notes delivered? Equinox emails a release notes PDF at every version update or upgrade to:
- The application owner/primary contact of every TeleLink or Protector installation
- Any user on the release notes list
- Any user who asks to be added to the distribution list
What does a release notes PDF contain? It describes every new feature and change in the currently released version only. The General Release portion of the document lists modifications available to all customers who install the application. The rest of the document is grouped by customer name and details items that apply to or were requested by that specific customer.
What is NOT included in a release notes PDF? Release notes do not contain comprehensive instructions for the entire system or features that already existed in prior versions of the application. Release notes supplement but do not replace the technical manuals you access from the Equinox online library or from Protector’s and TeleLink’s Help menu.
