MAG HONORS RICHMOND COUNTY MEDICAL SOCIETY WITH COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
ATLANTA – The Richmond County Medical Society (RCMS) received the John B. Rabun Award during a ceremony that took place in conjunction with the Medical Association of Georgia’s (MAG) 162nd House of Delegates meeting in Savannah on October 15. The MAG award honors a county medical society that performs outstanding community service to make medicine more prominent in its community.
RCMS has a long history of leadership within both the medical profession and the community. In addition to hosting its monthly meetings for members, RCMS has created a weekend CME program to develop physician leaders. More than 30 physicians and residents and medical students attended this year’s program in August, which was called the ‘Essential Tools for 21st Century Physicians.’
RCMS has also formed a task force to reduce opioid abuse and addiction in the community. This group has developed a network that includes local pharmacies and police departments that has “galvanized our community to face this critical public health crisis.”
RCMS was nominated for the award because of its “continued development of impactful leaders and the community service it provides. Its actions raise the visibility of physicians as leaders in our community while improving the health of the community.”
RCMS has more than 500 members. Go to www.medicalbureau.net/common/content.asp?PAGE=374 for information on RCMS.
With more than 7,800 members, MAG is the leading voice for physicians in Georgia. MAG is an advocate for physicians in every practice setting and specialty. MAG’s membership has increased for six years in a row. Go to www.mag.org for additional information.
