Longwood Gardens

Longwood from Home

With Christmas just a few days away, we wanted to gift you, our Members, with a festive new edition of Longwood from Home. This week, read about updates on our Longwood Reimagined project, make your plans to celebrate New Year's Eve in downtown Kennett Square, play a Longwood Gardens crossword by long-time Member Stu Ockman, register for our latest Members-only webinar on winter beauty, and much more! We wish you and yours a happy holiday season.

Beauty in the Making
As 2021 comes to a close and we reflect on how it’s been nearly one year since we embarked upon Longwood Reimagined: A New Garden Experience … we wanted to share with you a look at the tremendous strides we’ve made in this milestone project. And there’s much more to come. As Longwood Reimagined
continues to take shape and as the cultural landscape that is Longwood continues to evolve, we are delighted to share with you a closer look at just a few of the many facets of this incredibly detailed project in our most recent blog post.

As progress continues, we will be providing more frequent Longwood Reimagined updates along the way. Want to stay in the know? Sign up for project updates.
Ring in the New Year
If you plans include Longwood on New Year's Eve, head to the streets of Kennett Square for Midnight in the Square, a well-loved tradition that culminates with the Mushroom Drop at midnight.
Please note: The Gardens will be open until 11 pm on New Year’s Eve. Member reservations are required (except Gardens Premium Members).
Enjoy Your Exclusive Virtual Benefits
Gardens recipes, jigsaw puzzles, gardening-inspired webinars, and more await you on our virtual Member benefits webpage. There you can learn more about the magic of A Longwood Christmas, bake delicious cookies inspired by the du Pont family cookbook, take a behind-the-scenes look at our Christmas ornament collection, explore the inner-workings of our beloved Garden Railway, and more! Enjoy these Members-only benefits from home, in addition to your year-round access to our Gardens.
Take the Challenge
We’ve teamed up with Stu Ockman to present our very own crossword puzzle just in time for the holidays. Ockman is a long-time Longwood Member and his crosswords have appeared in The Jerusalem Post, Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, and in many other newspapers through syndication including The Boston Globe, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and San Francisco Examiner. Grab a pencil (or a pen if you’re feeling brave) and get puzzling. Getting stuck? The answer key will be in the next Longwood from Home!
Discover the Beauty of a Winter Garden
A textured tapestry full of showy seedheads, snow-dusted conifers, colorful tree bark, and frosty flowers can all bring visual beauty and interest to the garden. Join Senior Horticulturist Amy Bloom online on January 25 at 12 pm as she shares how Longwood’s Hillside Garden incorporates texture, form, and color within a landscape that’s full of winter interest. Learn Amy’s favorites and how to grow them at home, and discover what you can see when you visit the Hillside Garden this winter.

Discover Membership

Members are invited to join Longwood staff online on January 19 at 12 pm and February 15 at 6 pm for an introduction to our Gardens and discover all your Membership has to offer. Learn more about your Member benefits, visiting tips, and the history of Longwood. Afterward, enjoy a fun Gardens activity!
Please note: January and February orientations will be held virtually through Zoom. In-person orientations will resume in March.
