July 2021
Dear Volunteers,
Happy Summer! We have lots of programs underway this month and plenty of opportunities to jump in and get involved, especially with some of our kid and family focused activities! Details below, including information about volunteering at Flower Piano 2021.
As activities resume and the Garden welcomes more and more visitors, I want to remind volunteers of the importance of your role in helping folks feel welcome in the Garden. San Francisco Botanical Garden is Everybody's Garden, and just as we value having diverse plant collections, we also want to recognize and appreciate the diversity of visitors, staff, and fellow volunteers.
I'm also pleased to announce that the Board of Trustees recently approved a Land Acknowledgement Statement for the Garden, which you can read below along with many other volunteer updates.

Land Acknowledgement Statement
We acknowledge that San Francisco Botanical Garden sits on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone who are the original peoples of the San Francisco Peninsula. We recognize that we benefit from living and working on their traditional homeland, and we affirm their sovereign rights as first peoples.
Dedicated to connecting people to plants, the planet, and each other, the Garden upholds the significance of this cherished and revered place that celebrates Earth’s biological diversity in supporting the health and wellbeing of all people and the planet.

In Memoriam : Barbara Stevens
The Garden would like to recognize the death of Barbara Stevens, a long-time Garden friend, volunteer, and supporter.
Barbara was a remarkable woman with a big personality. Barbara was active and involved at SFBG well into her 80s. She attended every art exhibit reception and volunteer luncheon, and many Garden talks, tours, and events. She was also the Garden’s longest-serving volunteer; volunteering for over 55 years.
