Czech, mate!
Muriel Unseth (BBA '19) has received a Fulbright award to the Czech Republic for the 2021-22 academic year. Currently, Unseth is nearing completion of a master's degree in English. For 10 months, she will serve as a teaching assistant at a high school in a small town outside of Prague. Unseth applied for the Czech program because she is interested in teaching at the high school level and because the program is curated to be a blend of language acquisition, cultural education and community participation. "I'm scared and thrilled and absolutely honored to have this opportunity. How many times in your life do you get to sign up for a genuine adventure?"

Experience required
This spring, during her final semester before completing law school, Morgan Jones undertook a fascinating externship with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Public Health Law program. This was the ideal opportunity for Jones, who intends to focus her career on public health law and the emerging field of legal epidemiology. In particular, she is interested in addressing equitable pain management and social determinants of health. "I have seen firsthand the disproportionate health impacts on vulnerable populations in my community and how lack of accessibility hurts disabled populations."

Computers and their humans
Assistant Professor of Computer Science Sandeep Kuttal is intrigued by interactions between humans and computers – in particular, the idea that human programmers and machine intelligences engage in immersive and natural interactions centered around programming activities. To support her further research in this rapidly developing field, the National Science Foundation has granted Kuttal a prestigious Faculty Early Career Development Program (CAREER) award. Stay tuned as this energetic young scholar breaks down barriers between researchers and mechanical subjects in ways that were never thought possible.

Green-sky thinking
Earlier this month, The University of Tulsa and Skydweller Aero Inc. announced their partnership, based on a Small Business Technology Transfer award by the U.S. Air Force, to research high-efficiency, cost-effective solar panels for unmanned aerial vehicles. "By optimizing the absorption layer of silicon solar cells, we believe we can enhance efficiency by more than 60%," said Parameswar Hari, TU professor of physics and director of the Oklahoma Photovoltaic Research Institute. "To see such promise at the early stages of our work has been deeply rewarding for all of our university researchers. Our team is very passionate about this project."
