macOS Updates Are Getting Easier |
Starting May 20, Jamf Pro macOS patch management will make it simpler to keep your Mac updated without surprises.
You’ll start seeing friendly reminders to update macOS at a time that works for you. Updates won’t be required immediately. There is a 21-day window after the first alert for you to install the update at your convenience—ensuring your work is not disrupted.
This is about security, performance, and staying current with a proactive approach.
The Office of Information Technology successfully tested it in April, and now it’s ready for Mac users across Notre Dame.

Beginning in June: Inactive Google and Box Accounts will be Deleted |
Remember, the University has a policy of deleting files contained in drives owned by people who left Notre Dame over a year ago, and some of your files may be living in those drives. Next month, a mass deletion of these accounts will take place.
Similar to the 2024 Account Lifecycle mass deletions, accounts will be deleted in three phases:
1. Inactive Faculty and Affiliate accounts deleted on June 4, 2025
2. Inactive Staff accounts deleted June 25, 2025
3. Inactive Student accounts deleted July 16, 2025
Detailed breakdown:
-
Roughly 8500 Google and 7000 Box accounts will be deleted.
- These accounts have been marked Delete__NetID or [Pending Deletion].
- The data from these accounts will be deleted. To retain data in these accounts you must move the contents to a shared drive.
- The OIT will not reactivate these accounts or transfer any data from them.

Zoom Remote Control Security Concern |
Use Caution When Granting Access |
The Zoom remote control feature allows meeting participants to request screen or computer control while you are sharing your screen.
If you are sharing your screen, you may receive a request for remote control of your computer. Zoom will prompt you to verify that you know and trust this person before granting access.
Potential attackers have used this ability to install malicious software on devices, so make sure you are not granting access unless necessary, and only granting access to trusted individuals.

Best Practices When A Using Zoom Room |
Quick Tip: Starting a Meeting in a Zoom Room |
If you are hosting a meeting in a Zoom Room, it’s easy to walk into the Zoom Room and press the "Join Meeting" button on the device. But there is a better option!
If you are the meeting host/creator, bring your laptop to the Zoom Room, and follow these steps:
-
Pair your laptop with it by clicking the pair button inside of your Zoom client
- Join the meeting from your computer
You will be prompted to use your computer as a companion device while the Zoom Room handles the meeting. This will allow you to retain all host functions such as recording and meeting management.
