The past is a tool

The National Endowment for the Humanities recently awarded TU Professors Kristen Oertel and Lisa Cromer a $150,000 grant to establish a new minor in 2024. This academic program will study historical trauma to cultivate a deep understanding of American and world history by exploring how collective trauma and the responses to it have shaped society and institutional structures.

Sustainable solutions

Warigia Bowman’s research at TU Law is devoted to some of the world’s most pressing issues like wind energy, water supplies and the disproportionate effects that pollution and climate change have on underrepresented populations. As Bowman continues to teach about the importance of sustainable energy, natural resources and inequities, she hopes that students are driven to confront the issues that threaten our future.

Investing in others

TU Law student Michael Orcutt’s externship last summer paid off in ways he could never imagine. Not only did he familiarize himself with the ins and outs of contract law, but he also attained a fall internship as a result of the dedicated leadership at TTCU Federal Credit Union. “I hope that someday I can make good on the help I was given by passing it on to others when the time comes,” Orcutt said.

Honoring King's legacy

On MLK Day 2023, hundreds of students filled the streets of Greenwood to celebrate the life of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. From cleaning up Woodward Park to providing tech tips at Trinity Woods Retirement Community, students honored King’s legacy after the parade by participating in meaningful community outreach.
