Walk Maryland Day: October 7
Did you know walking is Maryland’s official state exercise? Celebrate Walk Maryland Day on Wednesday, October 7. Maryland celebrates "Walktober" this month with many activities. (It’s also Walk & Roll To School Day nationwide. Check it out.)
Bethesda Walk & Ride Challenge: October 12 – 30
Your three weeks of competitive walking fun start on Monday, October 12. Each year, teams of three to five people get together to see how many steps they can walk, logging them on the Walk & Ride Challenge website each week. Participants walking more than 10,000 steps in a week are entered into a drawing to win great prizes. The top three teams will also win prizes. Registration opens September 7. We will send an email when the Walk & Ride registration site is open.
Donate a Bike: October 16
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation’s Annual Bike Drive is scheduled for Friday, October 16. Both adult and child bikes are accepted. Donated bikes should be in ready-to-ride condition. MCDOT staff will collect bikes and parts (no bike helmets) between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. outside the Council Office Building parking garage located at the corner of East Jefferson and Monroe streets in Rockville.
Some donated bicycles will be refurbished and distributed through BikeMatchMoCo, which offers free bikes to those in need.
