HOW TO PREPARE YOURSELF TO ENGAGE IN CIVIL DISCOURSE Wednesday, November 4 2:00pm – 3:00pm | Join Via Webex
Presented by Dr. Ann Jaronski, Director, Student Counseling Services and Dr. Eddie Howard, Jr., Vice President for Student Affairs Events in this past year have presented numerous opportunities to participate in discussions, debates, arguments, and drama around a variety of issues that are "loaded." Our University community has many values including a Culture of Respect and Well-Being, a Culture of Inclusion and Awareness; a Culture of Spirit and Tradition; and a Culture of Excellence through Engagement. As a YSU Penguin, how can you learn to prepare yourself to truly model and live these values by engaging in civil discourse? In this workshop learn how to identify your triggers and be receptive to another's point of view in order to civilly engage differing views.

Virtual Penguin Preview Day, set for Friday, November 6, 2020, is a chance for prospective students to experience the University from the comfort of their own homes. This online open house program will feature live, web-based sessions from a variety of departments on campus to help future Penguins discover what makes the University a great place for their academic future! While we certainly miss having students on our campus to meet with them face-to-face, this virtual program allows us to reach a larger audience that may otherwise not be able to attend.
The program will kick off with a recorded welcome from YSU President Jim Tressel and a live Student Services panel comprised of several support professionals from across campus. Afterward, participants will have the opportunity to attend an academic session of their choice from one of our five colleges. From there, we will offer an admissions and financial aid presentation geared towards both new students and transfers, as well as an Honors College, Alumni and College Credit Plus session to finish out the event. There are also optional live Q&A sessions participants can attend to chat with current YSU students and a Virtual Information Booth containing a wealth of videos and resources for them to discover.

Last Friday, the Division of Student Experience, Pepsi, Kilcawley Center and Student Activities welcomed 125 students to their virtual event—Penguin Nights Not Your Granny's Bingo. This wilder version of Bingo with the dancing granny, DJ dance breaks, costume contest, and virtual caricature artist proved to be a successful and fun way to keep the Penguin Nights event alive during COVID restrictions. Students can expect more of the same during spring semester.
