Your Go-To Guide for Fall 2026 |
|
|
|
Welcome to a new semester! This fall marks our first full semester using Banner, the university’s new student information system. You'll access Banner through Experience, your new academic portal replacing myOleMiss.
Yes, this is a big transition, and there may be a few speed bumps along the way as we all get used to new tools, terminology, and processes. The goal is simple: to make it easier for you to manage your classes, financial aid, student account, and other important academic tasks in one modern, accessible place.
| |
|
|
-
View your classes via the Classes card for an at-a-glance view or the Class Schedule card for your full schedule.
-
Make schedule adjustments through Registration Self-Service. Fall course waitlists end today (Tuesday, Aug. 18). After waitlists close, review your schedule and make any needed registration changes. Don't forget you need your Registration PIN to make schedule changes.
-
Manage your Bursar Account to view and pay your bill, set up Authorized Users, explore the payment plan option, and set up direct deposit for eligible refunds.
-
Monitor your Financial Aid. Financial aid begins disbursing on Wednesday, August 20. If you expect aid and do not see it reflected on your account by August 20 or 21, check the Financial Aid card in Experience. On the Home tab, look for any unmet requirements. On the Offer tab, confirm that any awards requiring acceptance have been accepted.
- Note: Mississippi state grants, including MESG and MTAG, will not disburse until the end of September. Students expecting these grants should not be concerned if they are not reflected when other Fall 2026 aid begins to be disbursed.
-
Review your information in General Self-Service, including your addresses, phone numbers, and emergency contacts.
-
Add or edit Proxy Access for guardians and relatives.
-
Update your Expected Graduation Date. Keeping this information accurate is important for financial aid.
-
Bookmark the Advise Communication card for easy access to communications from advisors and the Check My Holds card to quickly view holds on your account.
-
Request a change to your major, concentration, or minor: For now, continue using your department’s existing process. A new Change of Curriculum workflow is being developed that will allow you to submit these requests through Experience.
|
As the university transitions from myOleMiss to Experience, backed by the new Banner student information system, you may notice some differences:
|
- Your classification may look different. Some continuing students may see a different classification in Experience than they previously saw in myOleMiss.
-
Banner treats repeated courses differently when determining whether you are classified as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior. A completed course counts toward your classification only once unless it is designated as repeatable for credit.
- If you notice a change in your classification, know that you have not lost academic progress. The difference reflects a change in how your student classification is calculated.
-
Know when curriculum changes take effect: Beginning in Fall 2026, requests to change your major, minor, or concentration must be submitted by the end of the add/drop period (the 10th day of classes) to take effect that semester. Requests submitted after the 10th day will take effect the following academic term, unless your Dean’s Office approves an immediate change.
- Some academic terms have changed. Your curriculum is now organized by program (your degree), major (your field of study), concentration (a specialized area within a major; formerly emphasis), and minor (a secondary field of study).
-
Dropping all of your courses is called a “withdrawal.” If you need to drop all courses for a term, you will now see this process referred to as a withdrawal. Continuing students may know this process as “drop to zero.”
