Bioengineering Alumna Awarded Soros Fellowship for New Americans
As an undergraduate at UC San Diego, Al Msari conducted research at Moores Cancer Center in the labs of Joseph Califano, MD and J. Silvio Gutkind, PhD., where she studied the important role of tumor-draining lymph nodes in head and neck cancers. Her research (1) contributed to a clinical shift toward lymphatics-preserving neoadjuvant immunotherapies and (2) resulted in her co-authorship on several papers. It also extended to creating a tissue-engineered lymph node for her capstone bioengineering senior design project, which restored immune functionality lost in standard cancer treatments.

May 30, 2024 | 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. ET |
Although trust in healthcare is essential for optimal cancer care and outcomes, current efforts to measure and improve trust and trustworthiness in healthcare often target patients, rather than improving the healthcare system. In this webinar, two invited experts will present on the constructs of trust and trustworthiness in the context of cancer care. Dr. Andrew Anderson will present key definitions and conceptual frameworks on trust and related constructs and offer guidance on how best to measure these constructs. Dr. Jennifer Richmond will present on how trust affects healthcare use and cancer outcomes and provide recommendations for building trust and institutional trustworthiness to advance health equity.
