Head of the Class
The City’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion offers a Civic Engagement Academy in the spring and fall for citizens who want to know more about the way their government functions. Council Member Robinson recently had the pleasure of addressing the group’s third session on the role public safety plays in ensuring citizens’ safety. Learn more about the CEA here and make plans to register for the Fall 2024 cohort.
Stitched Together
Council Member Robinson attended the 2024 Fanfare Quilt show, hosted by the Heritage Quilters of Huntsville. Karen Measles won Best of Show with a quilt that took 18 months to complete. The biennial event, held at the Von Braun Center, raises funds for future shows and "comfy quilts" charity projects. These quilts are distributed to veterans, NICU babies, domestic violence survivors, distressed children, fire victims and others in need of comfort. Additionally, emergency responders such as firefighters, police and EMTs carry quilts in their vehicles to provide immediate assistance to those in crisis.
Celebrating Women's History
Congrats to Huntsville Parks & Recreation on the inaugural HerPower Walk at Big Spring Park on March 16. Participants were undeterred by the chilly weather, as they gathered to honor Women’s History Month. As women from diverse backgrounds came together to walk, share stories and inspire one another, the event served as a testament to the strength and unity within the community.
Global Ties Display
Time is running out to see the Women's History Month exhibit on the first floor of the Madison County Courthouse. The display showcases Council Member Robinson alongside other influential women in leadership positions within the Huntsville community. A special thank you to Global Ties for acknowledging the significance of female leaders and their contributions. Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate and honor the impact of women in shaping our community's history and future.
Honoring Joy Parker
Council Member Robinson honored Joy Parker with a City Council resolution at the March 28 meeting. A longtime member of the City’s Beautification Board, Parker – a Boston native – has a servant’s heart and passion for beautifying Huntsville. “We should be proud to be the people keeping this as one of the prettiest cities to live in,” Parker said in a 2021 article on City Blog. “You get so much satisfaction from it and you see how much people care.”
