Bring One for the Chipper
Tis the season to Tree-cycle!
Keep Athens-Clarke County Beautiful would like to remind you to “Bring One for the Chipper!" Join us at this year’s Christmas Tree-cycling event on Saturday, January 7 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Give your tree a second life as compost, mulch, or fish habitat by bringing your undecorated tree to one of the seven drop-off locations and receive a free tree seedling in return. Christmas tree recycling will also be available before and after the 7th at selected locations or by setting your tree out with your regularly scheduled leaf and limb pick up.

"RE-" The Clarke County School District Student Art Exhibition
“RE-" the Clarke County School District Student Art Exhibition will be on display through January 14, 2023.
Lyndon House Arts Center is excited to welcome this ongoing partnership with the Clarke County School District that celebrates the creative youth in our community and the importance of art education. Following these pandemic years, we worked to develop a theme for the exhibit reflective of our shared experience and the hopeful possibilities of rebuilding together.
The exhibit includes works by students from Kindergarten to 12th grade and will include all mediums from weaving, sculpture, and photography to painting, drawing and collage. Also included are a number of large collaborative artworks by classrooms and grades.
All exhibitions are free of charge and open to the public. Exhibitions are on view during regular gallery hours Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, Friday and Saturday 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

MLK Day of Service
Athenians are invited to honor Dr. King's legacy at the annual Athens-Clarke County Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Monday, January 16, 2023.
In 1994, Congress made the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday an official day of service. Athens-Clarke County is one of the thousands of cities across the United States that decides to make the holiday "A Day On and Not a Day Off.”
This year’s kick-off celebration will take place from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. at the Clarke Central High School gymnasium. The first 400 registered volunteers at the kick-off will receive a free t-shirt. Light morning refreshments will be served.
More than 25 different community organizations, schools, and churches will host volunteer service projects for the Day of Service, including the Acceptance Recovery Center, Athens Area Homeless Shelter, Brooklyn Cemetery, Family Promise of Athens, Nuci’s Space, Project Safe, and more.
Online volunteer registration will tentatively open on Monday, January 2 and close on Friday, January 13. Those interested in participating can find the registration link online at www.accgov.com/mlkday. Limited walk-up registration will be available at the kick-off event.

"Fantastic Friday" is Back at Bishop Park!
Finally! Parents have been waiting for the return of this much beloved “Fantastic Friday” program that allows parents and kids to hang out and have fun in a non-structured environment. Parents are required to stay for the program and are responsible for leading their children through various obstacle courses and fun.
This program is for ages 12 months to 4 years and is held at the Bishop Park Gym at 705 Sunset Drive and takes place 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. on Fridays beginning January 13. Online pre-registration is required.
The fee is $7.50 per person for Athens-Clarke County residents and $9.00 per person for non-county residents.

Winter Registration ContinuesThe Leisure Services Department continues its winter program opportunities for 2022-2023
A diverse selection of activities highlighting the arts, environmental science, recreation, sports, and holiday events are planned for adults and children. The Department will implement a “rolling registration.” Program online registration continues.
Before registering, individuals who have not already done so must establish a free online account at www.accgov.com/myrec . Payment may be rendered using a debit card, American Express, Discover Card, MasterCard, Visa, or a MasterCard or Visa gift card.
Registration will continue until programs are at full enrollment or they begin. Individuals with expired scholarships and new scholarship applicants must visit a Leisure Services Department facility office at least five business days prior to registering for a program. Scholarships must be applied for in person. Information regarding the scholarship program, including required documentation, is available at www.accgov.com/scholarship.
Individuals who do not have access to a computer or smart phone may register online using the public computers at Heard Park at 400 McKinley Dr., Lay Park at 297 Hoyt St., or Rocksprings Park at 291 Henderson Ext. during regular hours of operation

Save the Date! Summer Camp Online Registration
The Leisure Services Department will launch summer camp online registration in March. ACC residents may register starting Saturday, March 18 at 9:00 a.m. Non-residents may register starting Monday, March 20 at noon. All registration takes place at www.accgov.com/myrec
Camp opportunities will be posted in February.
