Notre Dame researchers develop first-ever public database of nationwide opioid transactions
|
A first-of-its-kind public database developed by researchers with the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society and the Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities
at the University of Notre Dame is enabling public access to over ten years of national controlled substance transaction information.
The database was created to store The Automation of Reports and Consolidated Orders System (ARCOS), a collection of over 550 million detailed opioid transactions from 2006 to 2019 that were submitted to the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) by manufacturers and distributors of controlled substances.

| Hesburgh Libraries,Love Data Week 2024: Talking Neural Networks — A Beginner’s Guide
|
February 15, 2024 | 3:30pm
247 Hesburgh Library, Navari Family Center for Digital Scholarship
|
Learn about the basic principles and common terminology of neural networks.
In the past few years, use of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques has been on the rise, and neural networks are at the heart of this movement. At times, the results produced by these networks seem mystical:
how did your email platform correctly suggest the words you wanted to type? How does that photorealistic image depict a person who does not genuinely exist?
This workshop aims to provide a beginner’s guide to neural networks, focusing more on concepts and terms than the underlying mathematics.
