Our flagship red wine, Catharina, named after our founder Catharina Ustings Ras is an elegant representation of a cool-climate red blend (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz). This wine is on special for the month of August at a 20% discount for R192 per bottle. Red Wine Rendezvous at Bistro Sixteen82 

Join us for our last Red Wine Rendezvous for winter on 25 August 2016. The feedback from our guests has been fantastic and we cannot wait to host another evening. 
The cost is R375 per person and includes a welcome drink, 3 course dinner with red wine and gratuity. Extras to be charged accordingly.

Winter Pamper at Steenberg Hotel

Spend the night in one of our luxurious Premier Rooms where our Steenberg Spa therapists will perform a 90 minute Drift Away Body Treatment for each guest, which includes a gentle exfoliation followed by a Classic Massage, a head massage and scalp treatment.

New Wine Vintages - 1682 Chardonnay MCC & Syrah 2014

We have just released our new vintage of 1682 Chardonnay MCC - a fresh and crisp bubbly which is perfect for every ocassion. Purchase from our Tasting Room or Online Wine Shop for R160 per bottle.
Our Syrah 2014 is also a new release showcasing notes of white pepper, fynbos and nutmeg with a full body and soft tannins. Purchase from our Tasting Room or Online Wine Shop for R170 per bottle. 

Winter Maintenance in the Vineyards

 The winter season is exceptionally important for our vines as this is when they rest and build their strength for the growth season. During this time; we prune the vines to ensure optimum growth and we manage the cover crop. At the end of May, we sowed korog seeds inbetween the vineyard rows which grows to become the cover crop. This cover crop is essential for managing soil erosion, fertility, soil quality, water, weeds, pests and diseases. When the korog dries out and dies in spring, it will create a natural compost for our vines.

Recipe from Chef Kerry Kilpin: Tom Yum Mussels


Ingredients: 
2kg cleaned, fresh black mussels
10ml olive oil
1 sliced onion
10ml fresh chopped garlic
5ml chopped chilli
5ml chopped lemongrass
150ml Klein Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc
600ml cream
30ml Suree Tom Yum paste (or any good quality Tom Yum paste)
3 chopped spring onions
20g chopped coriander
20g chopped chives
Coriander to garnish

Method:

Sweat the onions, lemongrass, chilli and garlic in a large pot over a medium heat until soft.  
Add the mussels and white wine. Place the lid on the pot.  
Once the wine has come to the boil, add the cream and allow to cook further until the mussels open, this should take about 5 minutes on a high heat.
Once the mussels are open; strain and place the cream back into the pot.
Bring the cream to the boil and add the tom yum paste. Taste and season with salt if necessary.
(You may add more Tom Yum paste if you like a little more heat). Add the chopped coriander, chives, spring onions and mussels. Stir through.

Delicious with fresh ciabatta to mop up the sauce. Chef Kerry recommends a loaf from the Foodbarn Deli in Noordhoek. Enjoy!
